About Me / Q&A

What got you into cosplay?
After playing Final Fantasy 8 I had to have a Rinoa costume. So the Oct. after the game's release I was doing research into a costume that I was sure I wouldn't find in a Party City. I discovered photos of anime conventions where people cosplayed their own hand made creations and I was like "People actually MAKE these awesome costumes???" The October after the game's release I had my first Rinoa costume made. A couple of years later, I pulled out the sewing machine to begin my long journey of learning to do it myself!
What was your first costume and why?
Rinoa. She reminds me of myself, personality and her sense of style.
What is your favorite costume and why?
I think now this has switched to my Grace costume. It was a dream come true to make it, although I still want to make some upgrades to it!
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
I think each costume I tackle is a dream costume. Just over the years since I was a child they've been taking a number in my brain and have been waiting in a line up until I discovered a love for costume making and that it was possible to wear costumes during more days of the year than just Halloween. =D
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
I-Con 27, winning Best in Show. It was really unexpected because it was our first skit and only second time entering costumes in a contest(the first not winning us a thing). Plus after the speakers busted, forcing the event to be on hold for hours had us exhausted and hungry and just wanting to go back to the hotel. So this award was a first for all 3 of us in the group and it was such a big bang way to start us off.
Do you participate in masquerades?
Ever since I started, it's hard NOT to participate.
What was your best masquerade experience?
Our "Dynasty Warriors Brawl" skit performed at Otakon 2009. It was certainly the best received skit so far! The crowd erupted at just the title announcement which was an amazing feeling. Not to mention the appreciation for each and every joke as well as the crowd reciting the "boom stick" monologue from Army of Darkness in sync with my bf's modified version. I was just blown away by the audiences participation and reaction! <3
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
I-Con 27: Judges Award, Best in Show/ Animenext 2008: Coordinators Award/ Otakon 2008: Best Overall Novice / I-Con 28: Best in Show/ Otakon 2009: Best Costume Journeyman/ I-Con 29: Best in Show/ Otakon 2010: 2 Judges Awards AnimeNext 2012: Judges Award, Best Overall Craftsman
Tell us a little about yourself
I love to play video games and read comics. Wouldn't mind getting into either industry, but currently I'm in Editorial for a medical publishing company. I'm a fantasy writer, working on a novel right now and I'm also an artist. It's a hybrid style with Manga/Anime influences of course. I do some fanart but I mostly work on my own characters, usually ones from my novel.
