What got you into cosplay?
The friends who first introduced me to anime conventions were huge costumers and I wanted to join in. Unfortunately, that first convention consisted of nothing but sitting in their room watching them frantically finish their cosplays at the last minute.
What was your first costume and why?
I was Sakura from Card Captor Sakura. It was a barrowed costume from a friend. My hair was perfect for it and I had shoes that would work. It was very last minute.
What is your favorite costume and why?
Thus far, my favorite cosume is Ishida Ryuuken from Bleach. I poured myself heart and soul into it and managed to pull it together even though I was very busy with work. He's one of my all time favorite characters. Who can beat a grumpy doctor with super powers?
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
For a long time I wanted to do Yuna from Final Fantasy X. These days, I'm more excited to try my hand at Miles Edgeworth from Ace Attorney or Ginko from Mushishi. I'm planning to do Nice from Baccano! for 2009. My real dream is to find a female character I'm actually excited about cosplaying.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
I was dressed as Ishida Ryuuken at Anime Boston 2007. I was in Artist Alley with my friends when a younger cosplay, dressed as Ryuuken's son Uryuu, came up behind me. She tapped me on the shoulder and asked, "Are you my daddy?" With the most hopeful smile on her face!
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm a resident physician in Portland, Oregon. I'm going into internal medicine and am not sure yet whether I'm going to be a hospitalist or a primary care provider. In my spare time, I enjoy baking, writing fan fic, knitting, Dungeons and Dragons, reading (textbooks and otherwise), and napping. I collect figures and douj, primarily yaoi.
