What got you into cosplay?
I liked sewing and used to help with costumes for school shows when I was in high school. So, when I went to my first convention and saw people walking around in costume, I wanted to try it, too. ^_^
What was your first costume and why?
The purple coat version of Seto Kaiba from Yu-Gi-Oh. He was my favorite character from the series and I had made a purple coat for regular wear earlier that year that I decided was close enough to pass for his coat. So, that was the basis for my first cosplay.
What is your favorite costume and why?
Hmm... It's hard to pick. I've been having fun with my Count D costumes lately. I also like my formal Terra since it's my most elaborate outfit to date and the costume I've spent the most time on. And Ayame is the costume I've worn the most since it's a fun character and easier to change into most of my other costumes.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Not in particular. I do have quite a few costumes I'd like to make in the future but there isn't really one that stands out as a dream costume.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Probably going to the local cherry blossom festival in my Youka costume. Tourists kept asking to take my picture or to be in a picture with me. It felt like being a costumed character at a theme park! XD
Do you participate in masquerades?
I've been in a couple but only as a walk-on entry because I'm not good at performing. ^_^; I stick to hall cosplay contests most of the time since I'm not that great onstage.
What was your best masquerade experience?
Of the two I've been in so far, AnimeNext 2005. The show ran relatively on time that year. Plus, I got bumped up a division because the judges thought my skills were good enough and won Best Journeyman Craftsmanship. :-)
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Yes, I've won craftsmanship awards for several of my costumes. ^_^ Coordinator’s Award in the AnimeNext 2004 hall cosplay contest for Lili Best of Friday Novice in the AnimeNext 2005 hall cosplay contest for Tohru Best Journeyman Craftsmanship in the AnimeNext 2005 masquerade for Renrin Best of Show in the New York Comic Con 2006 costume contest for Lili Best Journeyman Craftsmanship in the AnimeNext 2006 masquerade for Youka Best of Friday Craftsman in the AnimeNext 2006 hall cosplay contest for Ayame (Golden Week outfit) Best of Weekend in the MangaNext 2006 hall cosplay contest for Count D (peacock dress) First Place Advanced Craftsmanship in the Anime Boston 2007 hall cosplay contest for Ayame (parent teacher conference outfit) Sequin and Beadwork Award (Master Division) in the Anime North 2007 masquerade for Terra Honorable Mention in the AnimeNext 2007 hall cosplay contest for Count D's sister 1st Place Craftsman in the NY Anime Festival 2007 hall contest for Count D (19th Century version) Best Master in the Anime Boston 2008 hall cosplay contest for Sarah Dupont
