What got you into cosplay?
The challenge of creating a costume that could successfully transform (even though temporarily) someone into something/someone else.
What was your first costume and why?
The first costume I made for myself was a "Dark Sorceress" type of thing. It was for a fantasy themed halloween party, at which I was to play the hostess.
What is your favorite costume and why?
So far, my Shiva costume. It took a *lot* of hard work, but everyone was very impressed with it. ^_^
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Nene's second generation hardsuit from Bubblegum Crisis 2040. I need to level-up my fiberglass skill first. ^,^'
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Accidentally pantsing myself at Otakon '02... yeah, I'm a bit of a klutz.
Do you participate in masquerades?
Only if someone REALLY wants me to, and gives me a ton of time in advance. I've actually judged more Masquerades than I've participated in at this point. ^,^'
What was your best masquerade experience?
My best masq experience was judging at SakuraCon 2006. We had a lot of great cosplayers, and the crowd was very cool in a situation where I was afraid they were going to go the other way.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
I've won a few awards, but I generally don't enter competitions. That's just not what cosplay is about to me. The awards I've won have all been in situations where my friends have prodded me into entering.
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm a published manga artist, and create custom wigs for other cosplayers. I love my job, although I spend so much time helping other cosplayers that I don't have enough time to do my own costumes. I offer workshops at many major conventions for those who'd like to learn wigcraft, and I'm currently working on a book for the same purpose.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
If you see me at a convention as a guest, or in Artist Alley, please don't be afraid to talk to me. I'm very friendly, and I always have time to answer questions in person. I always ask the convention to not tuck me away somewhere that the fans can't reach me, because I'M a fan too! ^_^
