What got you into cosplay?
I love to act and sew, and cosplaying is that grand avenue for me to take in order to enjoy what I love to do. One day, I would like to act on stage or on screen, which is a huge dream of mine, but I also love to be able to step out of my comfort levels and play around with new worlds and characters. Cosplaying allows me to practice many different sorts of characters, and I am able to craft my abilities to act in different ways. I feel like with cosplay, possibilities are endless, and I can be whoever and whatever I want to be. They are fleeting experiences, and are never permanent, and this is why I love to cosplay. I feel that the best things in life are not permanent.
What was your first costume and why?
It was Uchiha Sasuke. I went through this Naruto phase, but the anime was currently the only thing I really watched on tv anyway. Plus, I needed something to put together in a 6 hour period. It was an epic fail. But hey, we all have to start somewhere. =^.^=
What is your favorite costume and why?
I am absolutely in love with Nevermore. He is such a fun character to play, I feel I can get out of my comfort zones a little and explore entirely new worlds with him. It is a wonderful experience to have. :)
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
My dream costume would be to perfect Nevermore and be able to create the ultimate Nevermore costume. Something that is suited and fitting for a King, a God and a Faerie.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
The Genesis/Aerith photoshoot at MTAC '09. So far anyway. It was amazing, and fun! Many of the photos were breathtaking!!
Do you participate in masquerades?
Not yet, but I hope to one day do so. I have been judging lately, which have been very rewarding experiences.
What was your best masquerade experience?
Judging. Being able to critique and help other cosplayers is a wonderful opportunity. Having the best seat in the house for a masquerade is also fun. Sometimes I am wary because I know that it is because of the table I sit at that the actors and cosplayers on stage may be worried, but I try to comfort myself in the fact that everyone gets stage fright.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Never really thought about competing or anything like that. I simply love to create cosplay and cosplay. But it is amazing, that after all the hard work, year after year I go back to whatever con, wherever, and be remembered. That is an award in itself. And just finishing a difficult project and seeing it in action in the final pics and videos. ^^
Tell us a little about yourself
I am currently in University for Anthropology, with a minor in Japanese language and culture. I studied abroad in Japan, and also had the amazing chance to work with FreemanAsia Network to research in Japan for a little over a month. I count my blessing to have such beautiful and amazing life changing experiences. I feel that my eyes have been opened to the world, and I don't ever want them to close again.
Hobbies...(not in order of preference)...
Asian Ball Jointed Dolls,
japanese dance (tozan ryu),
Living my own life
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Always do your best and be true to yourself. Do not ever let anyone else get you down, because it can be hard to pull yourself back up after a while. Love yourself, love your hobbies and shoot for achieving your goals. :) Life is too short to waste on what others think of you, so enjoy every day as though it is your last.
