What got you into cosplay?
I always loved dressing up in costumes and wearing &designing outfits that weren't part of daily wear, ever since I was little....I guess I was born to cosplay ^_^
What was your first costume and why?
I made a lot of really good halloween costumes before I officially called my outfits cosplay- most creative would have to be my Japanese vampire schoolgirl, but in 2006 I made my first anime cosplay for Halloween, Kabuto Yakushi from Naruto. I improved it more after, and then wore it to Anime North 2007. Reasons why I decided on that outfit are on the costume's profile. And before I knew it was cosplay, I made a jedi padawan and a Princess Leia costume in seventh grade, one for Halloween and one for what was essentially a cosplay book report (we had to dress up and act like a character from a book and give an oral report of it. So fun. And novel adaptations of movies were allowed too :D)
What is your favorite costume and why?
Hmmm, hard question. I'd say my Sai cosplay, because it is just insanely comfy and quite a cool design, plus I had the most fun of all my costumes in it. I also love my kimono and yukata, I've made kimono for a fairly long time but there's very few if any opportunites for actually wearing them outside. Plus, they're very hot in summer which seems ironic considering Japan's climate X_X. And of course, my Organization XIII coat/Zexion cosplay because the coat is made of win.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
A full, silk maiko costume, in russet or burgundy with gold embroidery. I have a beautiful kimono I'm making now, but it's nowhere close to the idea I have. I'd also love to do Akari Kanzaki from Battle Athletes Victory (if I get more toned and learn how to use lycra...), and if I didn't have glasses (plus better prop-making skills), Deep Dive Riku would be SO kickass. And once again, if I can tone up enough, Yuffie. Oh, and Jen from Primal, because her bracers are just pwnsome.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Uhhh, pretty much my entire first convention, Anime North 2007. ^_^ ....and, my favourite "odd story" happened at the end of August 2008; I had just gotten my Organization XIII coat, and was doing a photoshoot in it (my bf photographing) downtown where there's loads of historic stone buildings, and an armoury that looks like a castle. While I was posing outside it, a soldier came out and asked me what I was doing and if I was aware I was on D.N.D. property...I just said it was costume modelling to not confuse him XD
Do you participate in masquerades?
No, I'm stage-shy. But me and my friends have some crackvideos on youtube, check out Angelz0productions, (my account) SoundShinobiYuki and the majority of the people on my friends list. I'm kinda scattered, lol.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
No...but I hope to eventually. Oh, and I also made it to the final rounds of my college's costume contest on Halloween, with my Itachi cosplay.lol. But, didn't win. So no award :(
Tell us a little about yourself
Well, I just finished college, I took Digital Arts for Musicians at St.Lawrence (Kingston campus). However, it wasn't really my niche. There's a few reasons I won't get into here for staying on. Now, I work at a jewelry store and plan to go into Seneca's Fashion Arts program soon. I do jiu jitsu, I have a yellow belt in the shorinji kan style and hope to get my orange SOMETIME soon. I have a long-term boyfriend of 2 years, just in case anyone was wondering. And I still love yaoi XD. Most people's first impressions of me are either "goth", "nerd" or "otaku", but really, I'm just a complete weirdo who in all honesty doesn't conform to one real style, and no I'm not being one of the 1000000000000000+ people who claim "I'm me,don't label me." I've also got Asperger's Syndrome which doesn't help with normalcy in the slightest. My life philosophy is that Balance is Essential to life. Feel free to get to know the mystery that is me; I do have fangs, but I don't bite ;)
My favorite anime
NARUTO! I'm a Narutard XD. I also love Death Note, Hellsing, Initial D, and Battle Athletes Victory.
My favorite game(s)
Primal, Chrono Trigger (on my PC...if only one could still FIND the snes cartridges...) and I'm HUGE into Kingdom Hearts, too. And on occasion my bf and I play Star Wars Battlefront & KOTOR or LotR-Third Age on his XBox. And before the arcade closed down in my city, I was HUGE on Initial D (lol, only serious female player:P) and loved DDR.
My favorite book(s)
I usually like reading educational and nonfiction types of books, books about Japanese culture, history books, George Orwell, magick and astrology texts, survival novels/stories, sewing and kimono books, and I did like the book form of Memoirs of a Geisha (but the movie can bite me.It's WAY too innacurate, I've been studying Japanese culture and language for at least four years now.)
As for manga that's not also anime, my faves are Jihai and Future Diary.
My favorite character(s)
From Naruto, a tie between Kabuto, Sasuke, Sai and Itachi. From Hellsing, no competition, Alucard ^^. From Death Note, L and Raito both; I hate Misa.Ugh. From Initial D, I'm not sure; I always did think Keisuke was hot :P. From Kingdom hearts, Riku, Axel, Saix and Demyx- Demyx mainly because he's a musician. lol. ^_^
My favorite movies(s)
I'm not a movie person, generally, due to how full of sh*t Hollywood is. I do like Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Lord of the Rings trilogy, the original Star Wars trilogy, Koyaanisqatsi, the Matrix Trilogy, a good lot of comedies, and most Miyazaki/anime movies, though. For anime, my favourites are Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky, and Grave of the Fireflies (it was so sad though, I cried at the end...)
