About Me / Q&A

What got you into cosplay?
I read in Animerica that there was one of those crazy anime conventions near me in Chicago! I was like, "screw it, I'm going!" I was a mere casual fan then, but when I decided to make a San costume and go all out, there was no turning back for me. I absolutely loved the combination of fandom, theatre, art and costuming- all about anime! This was my dream come true!
What was your first costume and why?
I chose San from Mononokehime because I already loved Miyazaki and his characters, and because I knew it was a costume I could definately make for my first cosplay attempt. It was very accurate and the craftsmanship was great because I actually wasn't rushed on this one.
What is your favorite costume and why?
I really love my Noriko from Gunbuster costume. I'd been wanting to make it for years, and finally getting around to making it and wearing it was really exciting. Gunbuster is one of those oldschool greats that I love paying homage to.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Hmmm... Trinity Blood and Five Star Stories look fantastic. Anything with big hats...
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Probably our epic Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust photoshoot in Boston in 2007. I had a great bonding and photographic experience with all parties involved.
Do you participate in masquerades?
I do when I have the time and energy.
What was your best masquerade experience?
Anime Iowa 2002. We did our "anime sideshow" skit and the audience was just wonderful. It made me proud to be an otaku, and even more so when we won an award! the next year we did a fun trigun skit and won too! but having a giant totoro and ed-boy in the same skit is something I won't forget....
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Yes, here and there. I don't compete much any more, but enjoy the occasional masquerade competition.
Tell us a little about yourself
I am almost graduated from the UMN Twin Cities with a degree in Clothing Design. I am currently interested in bondage wear and menswear, and hope to continue my interest in the bizarre world of anime costumes in whatever field I wind up in.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
