What got you into cosplay?
Well, after having been sucked into the toonami scene when I was a kid, I somehow discovered these things called "conventions". Browsing the internet had made me aware of this thing called "cosplay", but I had yet to experience it in person. It wasn't until I was out of high school that I attended my first anime convention, and became instantly fascinated by it. But I didn't know many people in the convention scene (it would later turn out that many of my friends were closet-nerds like me), so it wasn't until SDCC 2007 that I first threw together a cosplay, after being influenced by some strangers (eventually good friends) on the trolley.
What was your first costume and why?
It was, infact, Nekozawa at SDCC 2007- something I tend to overlook since it was such a closet cosplay with some people I had met on the trolley a few days prior. The following year, I portrayed Tamaki Suoh with the Ouran Host Club group that can be found in my albums. However, our Kyouya had those jackets made, and the rest (wigs aside), were store bought. The first costume I ever -MADE- would be Grave of Maria from D.Gray-man. That's one hell of a costume for a beginner.
What is your favorite costume and why?
Hahaha, after updating this, my favorite costume is definitely a no-brainer. Drizella Tremaine, from Cinderella. She is just a riot to portray, and considering I cranked out her, and two Anastasia dresses in the span of a week - I am damn proud of those dresses.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Yes. Yes, I do. Pippin's Gondor armor from Lord of the Rings, and Ariel's Celebrate Dreams Come True parade dress from Disneyworld, both of which I am currently working on. Maybe the Black Singer from Cirque Du Soleil's Alegria too?
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
It usually involves Harry Potter, actually. If you ever see photos of a Final Battle photoshoot from Dragon*Con floating around, you can find me as Tonks in there. We were so proud to have such a large turn-out, and the photos were fantastic. Plus, if you could see all the outtake photos in our facebook albums, you'd realize that we had a blast. But up there in my favorite times would also be fooling around as Harry from AVPM with my friends at D*C, and seeing the DH2 premiere at Wizarding World.
Do you participate in masquerades?
I've participated in a few masquerades and Hall-Cosplay events - They include Otakon, Otakufest, and Dragon*Con.
What was your best masquerade experience?
Winning Best Craftmanship for Young Adult Literature Costume Contest at Dragon*Con 2011 with the rest of our Quidditch through the ages group. It was all them, really, my costume was shite in comparison.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Grave Maria of D.Gray-man - "1st Place" at Otakufest, and a Judge's award at Tigercon.
Madam Hooch (with the rest of the Quidditch Group) - "Best Craftmanship" at Dragon*Con
Tell us a little about yourself
In Cosmetology school currently, and hoping to apply that to a career in costuming/theatrical make-up. :D My hobbies are sewing, video games, sewing, procrastinating, and sewing.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
