What got you into cosplay?
Ever since I went to my first convention back in 1998 (Comic Con) I always admired the people who dressed up and thought "Wow! They look like they've just popped out of the TV!" (I was young mind you...) I never thought I'd be able to do it but I figured hey, why not give it a shot? It looked like so much fun!
What was your first costume and why?
Bad or good? LOL. Well technically my first cosplay experience was at AX 2000 when I cosplayed Miaka because Yuu Watase was coming out. It was the only costume I thought I could "make." When I say make, I mean going to a thrift store and finding items that supposedly looked like the costume. Boy was I wrong...after going to AX and seeing a whole lot better Miaka cosplayers I felt very disheartened. (Granted I still had fun)
What is your favorite costume and why?
This is always a hard question to answer for me because when I get a new costume it's usually my favorite costume for the time being. Although I would have to say my Seira costume from Kaitou Saint Tail because it gets the most hilarious responses at times. I've had people confused that I was a nun, make me bless them, and things of that nature as my co-partner in crime; Saint Tail, did her dirty work. ^_~
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Ooooooo Sorceress Edea from FF8! Cuz I love her to DEATH! Her outfit would be soooooo neato to do if I could figure out how to do the backing. I eventually would like to do Umi Ryuzaki, my all-time favorite character from MKR.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
I've had many cosplay experiences that have made me feel like the job was done well...but I'd have to say my most memorable experience was when I first started out. Like I stated earlier, my Miaka costume was drop dead horrible and there obviously much better Miaka's there than I was. Well a funny thing happened when I was leaving the Yuu Watase panel...part of my group was lost and the other half of us were freaking out because it was our first time at AX, we didn't know where the heck they could've gone, and were afraid of losing them cuz they were so short (It is true). The rest of my group offered to look down the halls outside the panel room and I offered to stay behind and see if they might still be inside the panel room. I stood by the door when lo and behold Yuu Watase came out. I was shocked and wanted to get a picture of her since they wouldn't allow us during the panel (mind you I did get in 2 pics...horrible quality you can see at my web-site) but I realized I had to change film and by the time she reached the door, there was no time for picture. So I just bowed and said "Konnichi wa, Watase-sama."
And she smiled and said "Aaa, Miaka-chan!"
That made my day...being recognized by Yuu Watase and she's actually the one that gave me the inspiration not to give up on the cosplay experience (although not directly) because I was feeling I'd never be good enough because no one would come up and tell me you're Miaka and such. The point is she recognized me and that made my day. So yeah...I know that was kinda long but I felt like sharing my most memorable cosplaying experience ^_^
Do you participate in masquerades?
Not really. My first masquerade was at The One Ring Celebration. It really was a fashion show but it was the first time having my Frodo costume judged. I've for the most part helped my friends out who have competed backstage.
What was your best masquerade experience?
Well helping out was fun ^_^
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Tell us a little about yourself
Currently attending a very expensive private college, I have a family consisting of my parents, sister (Sana-chan), and cat. Eto ne...for hobbies I'd have to say singing, playing violin (and some ocarina and piano), creating web-pages (although not as often as I'd like to), selling on ebay, listening to J-Rock (and all other sorts of music), reading manga, writing my own stories, watching anime (duh), sewing costumes (another duh), and making my own anime music videos.
I'm a very shy person when it comes to groups socially, but for some odd reason being in a room with a bunch of anime freaks makes me feel right at home. I'm a bit on the sensitive side even though nowadays I don't show it. I'm hard-working and HATE procrastination in all its forms cuz it would just stress me out to no end. Oh yeah, and I'm of Christian faith. ^_^
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Oh yes, I like to play violin in my church's choir, play free-lance wedding jobs and yeah...you can tell I like music alot eh?
Well music is my life so to speak...I swear if I ever went deaf, that would make me so heart-broken.
