What got you into cosplay?
Dressing up as Darth Maul for Halloween parties at University...then moved to Japan and met a friend who's been cosplaying for 8 years...she got me into it.
What was your first costume and why?
Darth Maul...mainly because its scary, also because I love the character...an excellent fighter, dark and mysterious...plus the colour-scheme is so simple but striking. Plus, even though he was only in one film, EVERYONE recognises the character.
What is your favorite costume and why?
Guess?!
Yes...Darth Maul.
My Anakin was a bit half-hearted...and the character isn't so recognisable. Maybe that'll change with Episode 3...and I can update my costume.
My Neo is 'alright' but not looking like Mr Reeves is a bit of a problem!
That's what makes Darth Maul good: the paint. I don't have to have a similar face to Ray Parks...I put it on. I can't help giving people sneers, killer-stares and grimaces when I'm in my Darth Maul costume. I love it.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Just steadily improving Darth Maul really...
I'd love to do Batou from Ghost in the Shell...or Innocence. The Innocence version would be better actually. But I'm DEFINITELY not built for it! Maybe a padded coat...
And Blade! But there's NO WAY I can do that!
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Winning 3rd place at one of the earliest events I attended was great. I had to pose for 10 seconds while the crowd too photos and I scared a lot of people.
Or...I wore the costume for a school Halloween party...got dressed at home...got the train into Shinjuku (a veeery busy part of Tokyo) and strode through crowded Tokyo at night...
I've even got money out in-costume before...God only knows what the security-tape looked like...
Do you participate in masquerades?
Not sure what masquerades are...?!...acting?
I don't think we have them here.
I do walk about in-character.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Yeah, once I got 3rd place. Got 3000yen for it...which paid for cloth for a new robe.

I work in an English language school...and have lived in Tokyo for nearly 3 years...and love Japan.
I'm from north-easter England...went to University in Manchester...studied Astrophysics.
