What got you into cosplay?
Well, I LOVE anime and video games, so, anything to indulge in my fandom... Not only that, but I'm a natural copycat, I love to get in character and I often mimic my favorite characters without noticing. So, for the chance to "become" my favorite characters for some odd days at cons.... Well, I ask you, why the heck not?!
What was your first costume and why?
I remember now, actually, my first cosplay was Change of Heart, from Yu-Gi-Oh, which I threw together with much help from my mother for Halloween. She sewed together the robe type thing, and I made the wings out of foamboard stuff. I had the best time walking around in that thing, I felt just like my favorite character Bakura. Unfortuneatly one of the wings didn't make it through the whole night. ^^;; When I look back at it now, I think, that's so horrible! But at the time it was awesome. I plan to redo the costume someday, with awesome wings and everything.
What is your favorite costume and why?
My KH1 Riku costume is by far my favorite so far. I'm very pleased with the way it came out, especially since he's my favorite video game character. I'm very proud of it.
Hopefully my Heartless Riku will come out just as well. I'm looking forward to attempting it.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Someday I'll hopefully have all of Riku's costumes done. The one I'm looking forward to most is Heartless Riku. That thing just rocks.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
There's sooo many. My cosplay chess memories are my favorites. I was Riku in Connection 07's match, and I lasted until the end of the game! At Anime Boston 07 I was Aeris, so of course I was the first to die, hahah. Both were experiences I will never forget.
Others include cosplaying as Aeris during Connecticon and having someone come up to me and give me some pheonix down. That was completely awesome. Also, LARPing as Bakura at Genericon, which included playing a Shadow Games (one beingSuper Smash Bros. ) and stealing lots of people's souls.
Do you participate in masquerades?
I take place in craftmanship competitions, but not skits so far. However, I would LOVE to be in a skit, if someone wanted to pull one together. A few years ago, I would have been terrified at the thought of performing on stage. Now just look at me!
What was your best masquerade experience?
Well, most of them were either standing for hours on end in a line or getting nervous for five seconds in front of a crowd...
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Yup! Five now... o.o
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm seriously obsessed with cosplay, but still too lazy to get a lot done. I'm a rather unmotivated individual. Right now, although I still enjoy writing, I'm trying to pursue photography and get better at that.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I'm super excited about finally beginning my quest to make all of Riku's costumes. He's the character I feel most closely linked to out of all the characters I've seen. We have some points in common (stupid friendship guilt complex!), so I think it'd be easy for me to cosplay him, not to mention I admire him.
My favorite anime
Yu-Gi-Oh, Yu Yu Hakusho, Inuyasha, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Case Closed, .Hack//Sign, Fullmetal Alchemist, Fruits Basket, INVADER ZIM! (Yeah, I know it's not an anime, but it's just as cool).
My favorite game(s)
KINGODM HEARTS ^_^ 1, CoM, and 2. Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy X, .Hack series, Pokemon XD, older Pokemon games, Zelda OoC, MM, and WW, Price of Persia: Sands of Time, and last but certainly not least, Psychonauts
My favorite book(s)
Inkheart and Inkspell are the greatest. I want to read the third as soon as it comes out. I also especially love the His Dark Materials trilogy. Also, Artemis Fowl, Harry Potter, Narnia, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, The Kite Runner, The Outsiders... (The list goes on)
My favorite character(s)
Bakura is my ultimate favorite, with Riku right behind. Also, Kurama, Tsukasa, Kyo, Conan, Yuffie, Leon (or Squall, whatevs), Rikku, Dib (haha)
My favorite movies(s)
Narnia (the newest one), The Nightmare Before Christmas, Pirates of the Carribean 1 & 2, Edward Scissorhands, Lion King 1 & 2, Alladin, Flushed Away, Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy
My favorite actors/actresses
The only name that comes off the top of my head is Johnny Depp. I don't really care who's doing the acting- I like the in-movie characters the most.
