What got you into cosplay?
My very good friend Laura, aka ChibiRinoa told me about cosplay, and I thought she was crazy, that it was such a dorky hobby... Fast forward to Anime Boston 2004, and I find myself hauling ass a month before hand to make a Warrior Paine costume. And I've been hopelessly hooked ever since
What was your first costume and why?
My first was Warrior Paine from FFX-2. She was really the only FF character I had the hair for, and I didn't want to wear a wig. Soon, I was completely obsessed over Paine. On top of that, I'm a shy person in real life, so it was fun to act like a badass.
What is your favorite costume and why?
It's so hard to chose! I love all my costumes equally. I think the one that I've been favoring and wearing most often is my Halloween Town Sora, but I'm also completely in love with my three original costumes (Steampunk, Wood Nymph and Heartless Alice).
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
SOMETHING from Granado Espada, Trinity Blood, or an Amano design. I need a real challenge.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
I had just walked into the Boston Park Plaza hotel for AB04, and this girl randomly walks up to me and squeals, "Oh my god! It's Paine! Can you say 'Ice Ice Baby'?" After I said it for her she proceeded to squeal and run away... it was only later that I found out that Paine says that sometimes when she's casting Blizzard. It was still strange
Do you participate in masquerades?
Quite often. I've competed at AB ('04,'05,'08,'09), and Conneticon ('07,'08,'09)
What was your best masquerade experience?
Anime Boston 2008. We did a Chevalier D'Eon group, and we had a mishap with D'Eon's sword just before the masq. So after booking it to the hotel room to grab the epoxy and fixing it, we thought it was okay. Well, as soon as she whipped out her sword onstage, the blade tragically fell right off. Luckily, Annie played it off cool and people thought it was completely intentional.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
I've won about 12 awards so far, including several First Place Master Level Craftsmanship, and First Place Master Level Skit.
Tell us a little about yourself
I've actually just recently gotten into taking commissions. So if anyone is interested, my commissioning email is as follows: ripsnstitches@rocketmail.com . Please, serious customers only. I've quoted 3 people so far, and my commissions never go below $200. Please keep that in mind.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I love cosplay, and it may be bad of me, but I love competing in masquerades! I love the adrenaline and the thrill of the competition, and I've forged a LOT of friends from the masquerade. I've also dabbled in being a craftsmanship judge, a few times at Anime Boston, Arisia, and now Otakon, and I enjoy that almost as much.
My favorite book(s)
'My Sister's Keeper' by Jody Picoult, and any Amano artbook. I'm obsessed
My favorite character(s)
D from Vampire Hunter D is my absolute favorite.
