What got you into cosplay?
Going to my first anime convention, Animazement (May 2004). I had done a bit of research into what cons were like and decided I wanted to dress up. I had just finished watching "Fruits Basket" at the time and was in love with both Tohru and Momiji and I liked the fact that their outfits are somewhat interchangeable.
What was your first costume and why?
Momiji from Fruits Basket. Because his story breaks my heart every time I watch the series. I was born in the year of the dog, but the rabbit really is a sweetheart. :)
What is your favorite costume and why?
THIEF KING! My first costume I made on my own (with some help from my friend). I love it so much. Naraku, however, is quickly overtaking poor Thief King here. I do love my Big Bads.
Fiona has overtaken all others in the awesome department. I have never had such an amazing reaction to a costume and it just makes me squee every time I think about it.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Psychicer Rikku. I love the design and her hair would be fun.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Walking into Animazement and having people yell "MOMIJI" at me within two seconds of them seeing me. It was my first cosplay experience and I'll never forget it.
More recently, I was able to debut my Ogre!Fiona from Shrek. Only my closest friends knew what I was planning since I wasn't sure I could pull it off. But when I finally put it all together, and walked into the con... it was absolutely AMAZING seeing people's reactions to her. I had children running up to me, wanting hugs and to know where Shrek was. I had parents wanting pictures. I even had the professional BODY ARTIST ask how I got my makeup to look so perfect. I still haven't quite come down from that high!
Do you participate in masquerades?
Sometimes - I've entered the local contest the last two years, and I already have plans to enter next year with a group of friends.
What was your best masquerade experience?
Winging my first masquerade entry. :) Two friends and I decided about two hours beforehand to participate, and we winged it onstage. It *worked* somehow.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
I've won an award for a costume I've *worn* but not made. My friend darkawaii lent me her Alexiel costume for a convention and it won Best Craftsmanship.
Tell us a little about yourself
I've been working for a market research/ opinion survey company for more than five years and became a supervisor there in February 2008. I love my job a LOT and even though it's not perfect, I can't ask for anything other than a great boss and awesome co-workers.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Cosplay is my squee, and my brain-eating hobby.
