What got you into cosplay?
I've always loved costuming - I looked forward to Halloween as a kid - and when I realized that people went to conventions and dressed up as characters, giving an adult venue to do this sort of thing outside of a masquerade, I knew I would be interested.
What was your first costume and why?
Tseng, from the Turks of Final Fantasy VII. Really, it was a no-sew costume (well, minimal sewing, anyway, with the zipper), and I only confirmed my plans to go to a con at the last minute. So mostly I did it because it was a quickie.
What is your favorite costume and why?
As far as something I'd wear to an anime con, probably my Amano Locke from Final Fantasy VI. It's the first costume I think I had finished and was satisfied with well before the convention rolled around, making me very happy and unstressed to wear it. But for everything else? Totally the tenth Doctor, from Doctor Who. I loved bouncing around in a suit.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Iron Man. End of story.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Dragon*Con 2007, all around, was just the most fun ever, and getting to run around in a pair of Chuck Taylors? Yeah.
Do you participate in masquerades?
Nope. Bringing competition into it just causes unnecessary drama!
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm what I would finally consider a 'grown-up,' though I don't always own up to it. I'll always be a kid at heart. I work at the local newspaper, a job I am very happy with (in advertising, not journalism). My dream is to write a novel, someday. My interest has always leaned more toward sci-fi, fantasy, and period costuming, rather than anime or manga. I haven't found anything from Japan that I could feel passionate about in a very long time, though I did enjoy the costuming from Soul Calibur IV, so I'm content with trimming down my convention attendance on the anime circuit and living with Dragon*Con being the only don't-miss-it event on my calendar for the year.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I'm not really very active anymore. I've lost a lot of interest in cosplay, although not my passion for sewing and costuming in general. I don't like much anime or manga any longer, and I'm not very prolific with this. Whenever I find people who recognize me, I'm pretty surprised. You won't find me participating in a lot of stuff if I am at a convention. I'm all about hanging with my friends and having fun, not getting my picture snapped from two dozen different angles.
My favorite anime
Robotech, Sailor Moon, Yami no Matsuei, Bleach, Trigun, Gravitation, Fullmetal Alchemist.
My favorite game(s)
Final Fantasy IV, VI, VII, VIII, X, Soul Calibur series.
