What got you into cosplay?
Wanting to be a character, or be in a particular universe or world. I also love the challenge of figuring out how to reproduce a particular design with available materials and techniques.
What is your favorite costume and why?
Right now, my Avatar costume. I got out of the movie theater and said "I want to go to Pandora." This is as close as I can get.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
It would be fun to have Sarah's white ballgown to go along with my masquerade Jareth, but I don't know that I want to make it.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Having little kids run up to Na'vi-me yelling "avatar girl!", giving me gifts, hugging me, asking questions about Pandora, and even being a little scared of me. I've never had kids react to a costume like they did to that one.
Do you participate in masquerades?
Yes, and I really enjoy it.
What was your best masquerade experience?
At the workmanship judging for my first masquerade, the judge looked back and forth from my reference photo (for Jareth) to my costume, saying "I see glitter here and glitter here, glitter here and glitter here, glitter here and glitter here. And I see she has even successfully made herself appear as a man."
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Best Workmanship Novice, for Jareth. (see above story!) Best Recreation for that one as well.
Best Workmanship Journeyman and Best in Show for the Na'vi.
Best in Show, Best Makeup Journeyman, and a Blammy Award for the Na'vi at WorldCon. This makes me "one of the scary people."
