About Me / Q&A

What got you into cosplay?
I've always loved sewing and creating costumes, and just making things in general...I'm a very artsy-fartsy person. ^.^ And once I discovered that I had a knack for bringing my favorite characters to life, and that I could meet new people and make new friends who loved doing the same things as me, I was hooked!
What was your first costume and why?
It ceased to exist eons ago, but it was a white mage costume from the original Final Fantasy for Nintendo. And yes, it was lovingly hand stitched out of a bedsheet I pilfered from the linen closet, tee hee hee! I made it when I was twelve years old, lol...before I ever even knew cosplay existed.
What is your favorite costume and why?
Oooo...that's a tough one to answer. I love all my costumes, each for a specific reason, but picking favorites is so difficult! I guess I would have to say that work-wise, my favorite would be my Lulu (FFX) cosplay, because of all the time and detail I've put into it. Of all my costumes to date, the most grueling designing, detailing, and sewing has gone into that one. Personality-wise would definitely be my Aeris (FF7) cosplay, because I just love her character so much and feel great cosplaying her, as our attitudes are very similiar. And the costume that's my favorite to wear for fun? It's my Katt (Breath of Fire II) costume, hands down. =^.^= How else could I get away with making faces at people, threatening to punch the lights out of aggressive fanboys, or running around without any pants on?
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Yes...and since it's now in the beginning phases of its creation, it's a secret. ^__-
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
I can't say that any particular one is greater than the others, but it's always a wonderful feeling to meet new people and make new friends at conventions.
Do you participate in masquerades?
Yes, they're so much fun! ^_^
What was your best masquerade experience?
If I had to pick just one memory, I guess the one that stands out most is when I won my first big award - Runner-up for Best of Show. I hadn't yet won anything that awesome, and I was just overwhelmed by how many people screamed and cheered and clapped for me when I was summoned onstage to receive my prizes.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Yes, and I'm proud of them all! ^_^
Tell us a little about yourself
My dream in life is to someday own my own little costume shop. It will be a store full of beautiful costumes and clothing, lots of colorful, sparkly things, and of course, it has to have a little cat or two to sit in the window and sunbathe. I've been designing and sewing clothing and costumes ever since my grandmother bought me a giant green metal beast of a sewing machine from a garage sale when I was just thirteen, and I still haven't lost the passion for it! I am completely self-taught when it comes to sewing and patternmaking, and if there's one piece of advice I can give, it's that practice really does make perfect. Anyways, yes...I dress up as imaginary people for fun. =P Cosplay, or costume play, involves dressing up as characters from different movies, anime/manga, or video games. It's my favorite hobby, simply because I love the challenge of bringing my favorite characters to life. I have a blast working on the detail involved in a costume, from putting it together to finding just the right wig and make-up to learning how to make armor and accessories (chicks with power tools! Whoo!). Then there's the reward of seeing all that time and hard work magically come together. Those are half the fun...prancing around in my creations is the other half! I never quite outgrew my love for playing dress up. ^_^ Besides cosplaying and sewing, I have a lot of other hobbies I enjoy as well. Painting and drawing is my second passion, and I love roleplaying and am one of the biggest D&D freaks you'll ever meet. I enjoy writing poetry and stories, and I love to dance...bellydancing is one of my silly secret talents, and I pride myself on my ability to shimmy. When I'm not doing any of these things, I'm probably outside somewhere in a nice foresty place, hiking...I love being outside in fresh air and sunshine. All in all, I'm a very busy girl, but I'm also very happy with where I am in life. I've got a degree in Graphic Design, and love that I get to earn my living as both a costume designer and an artist. I also love people and am very approachable and friendly, so if you ever bump into me at a convention, be sure to stop and say hello!
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I like cheese. :D
My favorite anime
Vampire Hunter D (D is so kawaii), The Heroic Legend of Arislan, Bastard!, Serial Experiments Lain, Record of Lodoss Wars, Ninja Scroll...and a whole bunch of others I'm too tired to recall at the moment. =P
My favorite game(s)
Ooo...nearly all the Final Fantasy games, the Phantasy Star series, Chrono Trigger/Cross, the Breath of Fire series, Ragnarok Online, 7th Saga, The Lunar series...really I have too many favorites to list!
My favorite book(s)
I love stuff by Robert Jordan, Steven King, and most especially Terry Pratchett, as well as quite a few others out there.
My favorite movies(s)
I can't bear to pick just one! Therefore I shall list my favorite three, hee hee hee...The Princess Bride, Labyrinth, and Willow.
