What got you into cosplay?
I heard about the SacAnime from a friend and convinced some friends and my brother to come along. It wasn't very hard. ;)
What was your first costume and why?
Zelos Wilder (ToS). He's hilarious.
What is your favorite costume and why?
This changes hourly.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
I have found that certain character traits appeal to me, including military uniforms, smoking, eye patches, different color eyes, and stage make-up. I'd love to hit them all. However, I cosplay characters that specifically appeal to me for whatever reason...everything else is secondary.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
When I won first place in the writing contest for Yaoi Con 2009. It was my first Yaoi Con, and apparently there are some regulars who win every year, so I was very honored. Somewhere there is video footage of me looking shocked as I stumbled on stage to accept the award.
Do you participate in masquerades?
Only if we're competing solely for propwork. I'm currently teaching myself to sew and don't have the skills just yet.
What was your best masquerade experience?
Haha...well, it's kind of silly. After my first walk-on as Mustang (I am INCREDIBLY nervous on stage), one of the girls who was on before me called me the "flaming HOT alchemist." She seemed so sincere...I'm sure I turned bright red, but damn if it didn't make my day. ^_^
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Nope. Those should be forwarded to the lovely talents at cosplay1.com, from whom we commission our stuff. Although it's nice when people like our homemade props (and my wigs!).
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm currently in a Ph.D. program for inorganic chemistry where I do research and teach general chemistry. I'm a fiction writer and have a modestly burgeoning career in that field as well.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I have a strange obsession with Sherlock Holmes (the original stories, thankyouverymuch) and I love cats and SF Giants baseball. I am biologically female and an aromantic asexual. And about cosplay: I style all the wigs for my group, Bacon-Flavored Cosplay (user names are Eau de Decus, Kendama Master, and Archangelz) and help with all props.
My favorite game(s)
Tales of games, Kingdom Hearts, The World Ends With You, Eternal Sonata, Professor Layton. I like RPGs and puzzles. Also, anything Mario, including Kart, Smash, and other varieties. Back in the day I was a savage at Golden Eye and Perfect Dark. (If you don't remember when the 64 came out...shut up. I know I'm old!)
My favorite book(s)
Sherlock Holmes! Also Jane Austen, Laurie King, Michael Crichton. I read a lot. My living room is basically a library. And manga. All of it. I'm not adverse to yaoi, yuri, extreme violence, or massive profanity, but please have interesting characters, or else there's really no point, is there?
