What got you into cosplay?
I thought, after seeing so many people cosplaying that it looked really enjoyable. So, having gone to Anime Central for my second time I decided I wanted to cosplay. Honestly, at first I thought it was an obsessive fandom line I never wanted to cross, but thinking more about it, it didn't seem like such a bad way to spend your time at a con.
What was your first costume and why?
I chose Trainer Yuna from Final Fantasy X-2. Ever since playing X and X-2 I've adored Yuna and I really felt like she had a lot of fun dresspheres to play with in X-2. I chose the Trainer specifically because its the more covering and most interesting of her dresspheres. I was also hoping a lot of others wouldn't do it but when running into five other girls dressed the same at ACen I realized I should've known better ^^;;;
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
At this point my dream is just to loose enough weight that I can feel more confident in my costumes and make just some of the more simpler costumes I would love to make, that I wouldn't feel comfortable in otherwise.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
At this point there are way too many to even try and list them all or to just choose one.
Do you participate in masquerades?
My first skit experience was at Anime Central 2005. I was part of the parody of the Lumberjack song: "I'm An Otaku" which featured a Lau le Creuset cosplayer singing the main song. Yea... that was interesting >_> My first ever masquerade experience was participating in the Otakon 2004 hall contest. Between skits and walk-ons, I prefer to stick with my walk-ons.
What was your best masquerade experience?
Thus far it has been ACen 2005's masquerade. It was quick, painless, and everyone was a blast to be around. During the judge's decision time we all got up and danced and cheered in our room that was separate from the main hall. The atmosphere was just completely different from that of Otakon's. Considering everything else at ACen was horribly organized the Masquerade was really well ran. Especially compared to Otakon. There wasn't the sense of comradery that I got at ACen.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
1. Honorable Mention Ohayocon 2007 - Okuda Takiko Genbu no Miko from Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden 2. Hallway Costume Award Ohayocon 2007 - Sakura from TSubasa Chronicle 3. 1st Place Novice Otakon 2007 - Kakyuu-ouhi from Sera Myu/Sailor Moon Musicals 4. Best Craftsmanship Journeyman Katsucon 2008 - Juliet from Romeo x Juliet
Tell us a little about yourself
Wow this needed an update. I am a graduating senior of Indiana University getting my bachelor's in International Studies in East Asian Languages and Cultures with a minor in Folklore and Ethnomusicology. I'm out in the big real world looking for my career and hoping that I can work somewhere as a translator. When I'm not going to school I'm a full-time waitress at a Tex-Mex restaurant in the area, busting my butt for tips. And of course there's sewing when I have the time, and sometimes I have to make the time and neglect other things hehehe. Then, at the end of the day when I'm not doing any of those other things I might be reading a book, watching anime, or just out getting into trouble in general.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I am a fairly well grounded person who prefers to stay out of drama and avoids it at all costs.
