Eurobeat King
What got you into cosplay?
I've been going to anime conventions since 1994, and through the years at seeing the # of cosplayers at cons grow bigger and bigger, I've been amazed at the work people go through to make such detailed costumes. A group of friends back in 2000 got me started and made me my first real costume, Kim Kapwhan from King of Fighters. From that point on, I started to cosplay other characters from anime and video-game series.
What was your first costume and why?
The first costume I cosplayed was Shinji Ikari from Evangelion, since it was simple, I loved EVA back then, and the Pen-Pen plushie I bought was a useful prop to the costume that people recognized. When my friend Allie made my KOF Kim costume, I liked cosplaying him because of his sense of honor, justice, and good over evil-attitude.
What is your favorite costume and why?
Shinji will always be my favorite costume since it's the most comfortable, most recognizable, and Pen-Pen and I have gone to many cons and made many friends for those who have seen me at cons throughout the year. It's this simple costume that people recognize and say to me "you're Eurobeat King, aren't you?" ^_^
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
None at this time.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
The most memorable cosplay experience(s) happened at Fanime 2002 and 2003, where I debuted a new costume that year. Fanime 2002 was the debut of Saitou Hajime, and when I showed up to the Rurouni Kenshin gathering a little late, everyone cheered when I showed up as the much-anticipated former-Shinsengumi captain. At Fanime 2003 was the debut of the Mazda RX-7 FC3S for Ryosuke Takahashi, and when I walked around playing the Super Eurobeat music, people were amazed at the work my friend and I did put into it. Anime Expo 2003 had a similar greeting..
Do you participate in masquerades?
Sometimes, but not too often. I either participate in walk-on's by myself, or help out people with props or signs. Most of the time I am just in the audience, videotaping my friends who are participating, or else I'm backstage taking still pictures for this site. ^_^
What was your best masquerade experience?
The best masquerade experience was A-kon 2002, when I helped my friend Erika Door with her skit, where I just held up a sign. She ended up winning best of show, and she made me accompany her on stage to accept her award, and I was happy for her and proud to help her out even though I didn't do too much.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
I did win 3rd place at JapanTownAnimeFaire (JTAF) 2003 for my Initial D (FC3S) car costume. ^_^
