What got you into cosplay?
At the San Diego Comic-Con the wide range of cosplayers and the variety of costumes inspired me to give it a try. Mostly, I just like making things, which used to mean props and furniture and has evolved into costumes, videos, and my website.
What was your first costume and why?
I think my first costume was Sub-Zero, from the first Mortal Kombat movie. It looked fairly easy, and being a martial artist, it seemed appropriate.
What is your favorite costume and why?
My favorite costume is probably General Grievous. Because it's heavy and uncomfortable to wear. Who wouldn't love that?
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
All of the costumes I've made have been my dream costumes. Except, in my dreams they're much, much better.
And made of cheese.
Do you participate in masquerades?
Not usually. I enjoy watching masquerades, but I am turned off by the competitive aspect. I don't believe creative endeavors such as cosplay can truly be judged in such a manner. Who is to say that one costume with tons of handmade chainmail is better than another costume, with 10,000 hours spent hand-beading and embroidering, or a fiberglass mecha with flashing lights?
This is not to say I would never be in a masquerade. If someone had a really fun idea for a skit or something, I might be drawn in. But it would have to be so much fun that it would make up for all the convention fun I'd be missing while prepping for the masquerade.
