What got you into cosplay?
I have always enjoyed putting together costumes from items in my closet. When I started going to conventions, it was just a natural progression.
What was your first costume and why?
My first costume was an original series Star Trek uniform. I am in a sci-fi group where a lot of members wear uniforms to events, and I wanted one too. I picked Uhura to play because she was my favorite character.
What is your favorite costume and why?
My Codex from Do You Want To Date My Avatar has definitely been the most fun to wear and feels the most princess-y. But my Jeannie costume is a nostalgic dream come true.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
I really want to make Dot Matrix from Spaceballs. I think it would be my biggest technical challenge to date.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Going up on stage with Felicia Day at Dragon*Con 2009 and having her tweet our Guild costumes (and having her tweet a pic of her and I with my steampunk costume earlier that day!).
Do you participate in masquerades?
Yes, but I've only just begun, in my opinion. Though I've judged a few as well.
What was your best masquerade experience?
My first masquerade in a costume I made and skit I directed won Best In Class--Novice and Audience Choice. Can't get much better than that! (Well, except for Best In Show, but I think for my first time, it was pretty awesome!).
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Star Trek: Best Sci-Fi. ConText, 2007.
Warlock: Best In Class--Novice and Audience Choice. Marcon 2008.
The Guild: Best Original Costume, Whedonverse track, Dragon*Con 2009.
Penny from Dr. Horrible: Honorable Mention, Capricon 2009.
Trying to remember the others.
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm involved in a lot of social fan clubs, so my life is busy pretty much every day of the week. I also work full time and am trying to start volunteering for some costume-oriented opportunities in theatre. I'm also starting up an etsy site because I have so many ideas and not enough storage space to keep everything I want to make. :)
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
My big fandoms over the years have been Star Trek, Steampunk, Battlestar Galactica, Jane Austen, Doctor Who, and Harry Potter.
