About Me / Q&A

What got you into cosplay?
I loved to draw costumes, and I taught myself to sew in 2007. After making a few halloween costumes I realized how much I enjoy the process of taking something from a 2D image to the real thing, and I've been doing my best to do that as faithfully as possible ever since.
What was your first costume and why?
Link. It was perfect for me and my twin to be Link and Dark Link, especially since we moved apart. We really miss getting to spend time together, so having a shared cosplay and getting together to go to cons is really nice.
What is your favorite costume and why?
I'm really happy with how my Boudicca and Roll turned out!
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
I'd love to make Lilith and Maya from Borderlands 2 for my twin and I, or Adam Jensen from Deus Ex.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
I met Wil Wheaton at PAX '12 which was rather memorable, but also getting to talk to the Megaman Dev team and getting complemented on my Roll cosplay was awesome!
Do you participate in masquerades?
I used to when I was younger, but I really just enjoy the process of making the costume more than winning prizes. Getting complemented on my construction or recognized on the con floor is just as satisfying.
What was your best masquerade experience?
My twin and I won several Masq. contests when we were first starting out as Link and Dark Link, that kind of positive reaction and push really helped inspire me to keep cosplaying and get better. Now we don't compete but I think when I was 16/17 years old, my confidence really benefited from the recognition we gained from doing masqs and without it I wouldn't be as confident in my costumes and abilities as I am now.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Like in the previous question, we did win several awards for our Link/Shadow Link costumes, and it was really beneficial to me as a beginning cosplayer.
Tell us a little about yourself
I've just recently graduated college with a BA in Theatre Arts Costume Design, and I am mostly focusing on my commissioning and getting a seamstress or costuming job. I've been working for 3 years in the University costume shop and the technique and discipline I learned there has really benefited my cosplay in countless ways.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I hope that now that I'm out of college I can start to take on bigger challenges in cosplay!
