What got you into cosplay?
Conversing with a friend (user msanogi) about going to a convention - our first. She mentioned that people often cosplay at these events, and I was definately up for making a costume to run around as my favorite character in. (Or at least my mom making most of it and me doing all the accessories and details.
After the first she said, "You're on your own." Taught me how to use the sewing machine, and I was off!)
What was your first costume and why?
Saitou Hajime from Rurouni Kenshin (Shinsengumi uniform). Kenshin was my favorite series at the time, and I has fun being a shinsengumi member. Even though I'm sure people couldn't often recognize me as Saitou, they would still recognize that distinct coat. :)
What is your favorite costume and why?
BANKAI RENJI!!! 8D
I worked so hard on that thing, and it really did pay off. (Plus there was the upside of one guy mentioning, "Wow. A girl makes the best Renji I've seen. We guys gotta step it up." [can't remember the exact wording but the idea is there]).
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Well, I usually get around to my dream costumes eventually, so the answer to this question is always changing. But since I just completed my first Sengoku Basara cosplay, I have been struck in the heart with inspiration to complete more armor. Next dream projects: Date Masamune (Sengoku Basara), Sengoku!TMRevolution (cover art of the Limited Edition Utage CD release), and Origami Cyclone (Tiger and Bunny). I would also love to do Oz!Natsuki from Summer Wars, becasue her final form is gorgeous. >w<
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Making so many friends through the hobby. :) And also pushing myself and my talents through crafting every cosplay (even the seemingly simple ones).
Do you participate in masquerades?
Once (other than walk-ons). Our first skit ever was Bleach - Laundry Day at Katsucon 2009
What was your best masquerade experience?
I guess it would be my only one. XD
The fact that people actually cheered when we came on stage. It certainly made me feel a little more secure. I'm not really a theatre person; I just like to act silly. XD
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
1st Place Novice (Friday) - Otakon 2009,
Best Journeyman Craftsmanship - Katsucon 2010 Masquerade, Yesod's "Fabulous Disco" Judge's Award - Otakon 2010, Best of Friday - Otakon 2011, Euphoria's "Best Stud" Judge's Award - Otakon 2011, Runner Up Craftsman - Otakon 2012
Tell us a little about yourself
I guess the only thing that sums me up as a cosplayer is: it takes me a while to make a costume. I'm a pretty methodical worker hence not many costume galleries in my profile. Hahah.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
They say, "Never look back." I say, "Look back as you move forward and revel in how far you've come."
