About Me / Q&A
What got you into cosplay?
I was asked by a friend if I wanted to cosplay Misa from Death Note while she cosplayed Ryuk. We never actually cosplayed the together in the end as she soon lost interest in the hobby while I became really into it.
What was your first costume and why?
Misa Amane from Death Note. My mum did not like the idea of me cosplaying when I first began (she thought it was a cult) so I picked a dress Misa wore in chapter 55 of the manga that looked pretty normal so I didn't get questions from her while sewing it.
I of course chose Misa as my first character to cosplay as my friend had asked me to cosplay her.
What is your favorite costume and why?
Sinon from SAO is my favourite costume. Mainly because of the gun though, I will be honest here. The character's anime design had not been released when I begun it and I was going off art from the LN which did not give references from all angles, I literally had no clue as to what kind of shoes she wore as I could not find an official image that showed below her knees.
I really like the design of the character and how it all looks when on.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
My dream cosplay is the Glittering Crux version of Sugata from Star Driver (the one that looks like a peacock).
I would also like to do Usui in its final form from DMMd. The design is spectacular but it'd be a fair bit of effort to even work out the logistics of the extra arms and that wig.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Performing in the Team Synchronicity skit at Wellington Armageddon 2011 and winning best group skit. In fact being part of that group was a pretty awesome experience in itself.
Do you participate in masquerades?
Not often. I dislike the pressure of the costume construction side of it (I tend to screw up when I know everything I'm doing has to be perfect).
What was your best masquerade experience?
2013 Hamilton Armageddon, Inu x Boku SS cosplay.
My partner and I had been practising for quite some time to get our costumes to work for the dance we did (a 4/4 time tango inspired dance to the moonbug remix of Inu x Boku SS's OP) and it paid off in the end.
I used to dance competitively and in shows before a hip injury at 16 so getting back up on stage and dancing even to a small portion of that level was fantastic and my partner did an awesome job, not only of the dance but managing it with her tails for Soushi.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
