What got you into cosplay?
I have always enjoyed costumes (due to Vampire LARPs), and had a few sets for my specific characters. After attending Anime North 2008, I was able to convince a few of my friends to cosplay with me. We decided to all work on costumes together, though we went with different themes/characters.
What was your first costume and why?
I chose to do the Captain of the Yamato (from Space Battleship Yamato) because it was a show that I had enjoyed when I was a young boy (though I had watched it as Starblazers). It also allowed me to keep my beard.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
When I was walking through the dealer room at Anime North 2009 (dressed as Captain Okita), one of the older vendors looked across at me and took on this tearful, nostalgic look. He saluted me, and motioned to his heart. It was a poignant and completely silent moment that meant a lot to me as I felt the same way.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
2010 Anime North - Novice - Best Workmanship - Armored Trooper Votoms
2011 Anime North - Journeyman - Best AI - Alphonse from Patlabor
