What got you into cosplay?
I'd seen and read much about cosplay prior to AWA 5, but I was inspired by the creativity, workmanship, presentation and sheer enthusiasm for the craft of cosplayers in the flesh to take initiative and participate by the end of the con... =^_^=
What was your first costume and why?
My first costume was Magami Eiko ("A-ko"), the heroine of the classic series, Project A-ko! I dressed as she for a number of reasons: 1) Project A-ko was one of the very first anime I'd been captivated by as a child. I absolutely adored Eikochan! 2) Eikochan's seera-fuku is a staple cosplay pattern, easy to sew (with which my mom helped immensely), and a choice prerequisite for "higher" cosplaying. 3) I'm a natural redhead and I don't fancy wigs. 4) Et cetera...
What is your favorite costume and why?
My favorite costume ends up a tie between Rabi~en~Rose (AWA 8) and Onna Ranma (AWA 9 and 10)... Rabichan was a daunting task to be finished, but well worth the tedious work. I say tedious because I chose to refer to the manga design, as I favor it's much the that of the anime... As much fun as I'd had, it's never fun for me to be oggled by fanboys... It's not like they're oggling ME, anyway. ¬_¬;
(Girl-type) Ranma was a lot easier to make, and was a great pleasure to wear... I didn't have to stress out about exposing legs/arm/chest at all and still feel just as cute and feminine! As with Eikochan, cosplaying as Ranma entails no wigs, and keeping my hair back into a simple braid made me feel all the more laid back and into character.
The contrast between the look and feel of the costumes can't even be compared - Ranma feels so much more relaxed and free to move sans a worry. Despite this, the detail put into making Rabichan work reeps its own benefits. I'd love to cosplay again as both characters again after I get around to making complimentary costumes to the finished ones: Usada Hikaru's (Rabi~en~Rose) her school uniform, and Onna Ranma in her prettiful Chinese cheongsam. =D
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Each year my "dream costume" to-do list gets a little longer, but has always included an immaculate Belldandy and Sailorcosmos somewhere at the top. I'd also love to cosplay as my own caricature, J-chan (no Koneko)!
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
So far my most memorable cosplay experience has been cosplaying with my girl-buddy Julie (Flowery) at AWA 10 (Sept 24-26) this past weekend! We planned on her going as Akane, a counter part to my Ranma, but couldn't manage to find the right materials in time... Nevermind it, though, 'cause she put together an awesome summoner Yuna within days of the con, and we had a fantastic time... Julie's the very most funnerest to con with, and AWA 10 was her first!
Do you participate in masquerades?
No, but I'd love the opportunity to!
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
No, but then again I've never entered any contests, either. I'm really shy and ultimately never find time to spare for a contest at any con... Maybe next year I will, though, since I'm planning a group-cosplay, and I imagine it'd be a whole lot more exciting to enter and win with my buddies.
