About Me / Q&A

What got you into cosplay?
What got me into it? A love of making costumes. I like getting dressed up and it's a great way to be creative while showing some love for your favorite things.
What was your first costume and why?
Lara Croft. I was going to a comic book convention with my friend after my high school graduation and figured why not.
What is your favorite costume and why?
I've edited this question a few times. But it would have to be either Madam Red or Yuuko. Madam Red gets a ton of love at cons, and I still look at it and am amazed I made it (even though I do commissions and everything!). It took 75 hours and was well worth it. Yuuko marked a high point in learning for me. I learned to do wig work I had never done before and even though I have shaky hands due to a nerve problem (they misfire and cause me to shake occasionally) I managed to hand paint all these feathers on it.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
I'm always adding and subtracting costumes I want to do from my list.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
A-kon 20. My friend and I, in our Sakura and Fai from Tsubasa's chapter 138 splash page, walked into a CLAMP photo shoot and had everyone in the room just turn and stare at us. We got so many compliments on those costumes that I ended up wearing the costume a second day even though I didn't plan to wear it but one. I've had a number of great moments in my Madam Red costume too. People really seem to love seeing it.
Do you participate in masquerades?
It took me a long time to work up the nerve to enter contests. I mostly enter Hall Cosplay Contests, but have done one or two stage contests. I don't mind people critiquing my outfits, but it's a bit nerve wracking to stand there and have them pick over the outfit while it's on my body! But hey, the second time we entered, we won a Craftsmanship award, so that's pretty awesome.
What was your best masquerade experience?
Anime Blues Con 2011. It was the first year for the con and my friend and I entered a few CLAMP cosplay in the masquerade. The overall reception and cheering for our costumes made feel great and eased my nerves of being on stage in front of a lot of people.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Just the recognition of 12012 when a commission I did was picked by the band as the best cosplay there. It was a honor for the guy that wore it to see it as a great replication. And getting into Cosmode in 2009. And most recently, Best Craftsmanship in A-kon's Friday hall Cosplay Contest 2010 for the Kuroshitsuji group I did the costumes for. 200 hours of work just on my part to make the three costumes! Won a contest at A-kon 22 and didn't even know til almost a month later. It was Dusk Comics Miss Tilney's Victorian contest. My blue Victorian gown won and I was really excited. Most recently my friend and I won for Best Intermediate Level at Anime Blues Con for my Yuuko and her Sakura. More wins in 2012 with another Craftsmanship award in A-kon's Hall Cosplay Contest for my Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt trio and then Master Level winners at Anime Blues Con 2 for our xxxholic group. I also had a hand in helping my brother's girlfriend make her costume that won Best Craftsmanship in A-kon 23's Video Game Cosplay Contest and then it won the Intermediate Level at Anime Blues Con 2. I hope to continue to add awards to my list.
Tell us a little about yourself
I have a huge family, extended to all my friends. I love jrock, anime, manga, video games, all sorts of stuff. I spend a ton of time with my brothers and friends just sitting around enjoying the world. My life revolves around designing and making clothes mostly. I've enjoyed it since I was in middle school and designed my sister's wedding dress. Ever since then, I was hooked. Now I do commissions as well as all the sewing for myself and my friends.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Right now I'm building a website to do commissions from. I get pretty good work just from this site, but I would love for it to take off a little more. Feel free to PM me if you want a quote for a costume.
My favorite anime
Yami no Matsuei, Weiss Kreuz, Gravitation, Hellsing, Cowboy Bebop, Bleach, Naruto, the Slayers, Ninja Scroll...the list goes on forever.
My favorite game(s)
Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy IX, and Final Fantasy XII are the ones I could play forever and a day and not want to stop. I love a lot of other ones too, but those are my babies.
My favorite book(s)
Lord of the Rings trilogy, Alice in Wonderland, any Grimm Fairy Tales, Chronicles of Narnia, Memoirs of a Geisha, Harry Potter, the Sano Ichiro series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians and the Heroes of Olympus series, and the Cain Chronicles. I guess in here you could say manga too...but I don't think you wanna see that list. I can ramble on about manga for the next hundred years.
My favorite character(s)
In what? There's so many! Anime would take too long to list. Manga it probably is between a ton of Yami no Matsuei characters, Fai from Tsubasa, Yuuko form xxxholic, Cain from Godchild, and my all-time favorite man Aram from Meru Puri or a million others from the tons of manga I read. Video games it's Vincent, Sephiroth and Cid from FFVII hands down.
My favorite movies(s)
The King and the Clown, Moon Child, Kagen no Tsuki, Gohatto, the Returner, Hero, Moulin Rouge.
My favorite actors/actresses
Matsuda Ryuhei and Kaneshiro Takeshi
