What got you into cosplay?
I've wanted to attend an anime convention since about 2003. It took 8 years to not be too busy with school and get a job that pays enough with weekends off, but late 2010 a friend asked if I wasted to go to Sac-Anime.
What was your first costume and why?
A friend asked in late 2010 if I wanted to go to Sac-Anime as Simon from Gurren Lagann. He and his girlfriend were Yoko and Kamina. I'd never seen the series, but a few episodes in I was hooked on the idea. It took total of about 35 hours to complete the Simon cosplay and I had to re-learn to use a sewing machine, but it turned out awesome. My boss at the machine shop was puzzled by my making of the core drill necklace (made from solid steel), and just told him it's an "artsy fartsy" project.
What is your favorite costume and why?
Canti. It's just so technical, and I love technical stuff!
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
I want to make an HEV suit and be Gordon Freeman.
The original Half Life, though I played it about 5 years after it's release, was and still is one of my favorite computer games. It may be old and have bad graphics by today's standards, but it still and always will hold a place within my CD stacks and my heart. Not to mention I love the crowbar over the gravity gun.
Do you participate in masquerades?
Sac Anime Summer 2011, I was Naota in a skit based off the Meatloaf song intro Wasted Youth. It involved swinging a guitar around, and thus was fun. not to mention I find acting in general to be a lot of fun.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Nope. I'm not really one to compete.
Tell us a little about yourself
Boring stuff: Part time college, full time machinist. Enjoy my job.
Interesting stuff: I build and compete with combat robots at 3-4 competitions per year, including the largest international robotics event, Robogames (every spring/summer in San Matteo, CA). Though I do mostly smaller bots that I can handle on my own with less expense, I've built a 220 lb bot that won 2nd place, as well as wonrked on a few 60 pounders. Here are some videos.
Gyrobot (2-lbs): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxmJXRlsksY
The Electric Boogaloo (220-lbs), starts in the red square (closest): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcMRp9TVF5Y
Brave Little Toaster (3-lb): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miT7hYPLaVs
Atom Bomb (150g, in the red corner): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRQ3_bR8Jaw
(Atom bomb has an aluminum drum with spikes on it that spins 20,000 RPM)
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Blahdi blahdi blah.
