What got you into cosplay?
I've been dressing up as characters I love since I was little at Halloween, on my birthdays and just around the house. When I was about 14 I started going to comic and Sci-Fi cons. I finially decided to go in costume to one when I was 18. That was the Dallas Sci-Fi Expo & Toy Show. The first anime con I ever attended was AnimeFEST! '98 and I've been hooked into cosplaying since.
What was your first costume and why?
The first costume I made all by myself was Gambit(classic version) from Marvel comics when I was 14. I was really crazy for the X-Men way back then and he was my favorite of them all. The first costume I ever made for a convention was a character of my own design(thats as much as I will say on that :P). I also wore him to the first anime con I ever attended. But the first known character I ever cosplayed at a con as was Prince Lotor from Voltron. I grew up with Voltron so its stuck with me. I do adore my '80s toons. ^_^ Prince Lotor was my favorite character from the show. I've always been really into villains, plus I really liked the way Lotor looked. Blue-violet skin, white hair, pointed ears, fangs, cat's eyes. Very sexy.
What is your favorite costume and why?
Oh, man... thats like trying to choose between my children. 0_0 I'll narrow it down to two... which would be both costumes that completely cover my body and make me look like giant toys. Green Goblin(Humberto Ramos version), because I adore Green Goblin(I,II & IV), and I've been trying for 3 years to get one of the costumes completed, but I ran into constant delays. Finally finished Goblin summer of 2004, and I love the costume dearly from the cartoony proportions and features to the armor and crazy eyes. o_@ Starscream because he was the first mech costume I ever made. I went into that costume with a pile of paper and foam and a wish. :P Making that costume a late minute descision on my part and I about drove myself crazy trying to figure out how to make the suit mobil and not painful to wear and construct it in time for A-kon 14. Many many many hotglue burns. X_X
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
The Alien Queen from "Aliens"! Ha, like thats going to ever happen... I can dream though. :P My more realistic dream costume would be Blix from "Legend". He was the first little monster I ver went crazy over. Love the 80's! ^.^ Or the Harlequin Demon from "The Nightmare Before Christmas".
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Dallas Comic Con 2003. I wore my Grima Wormtongue costume to meet Brad Dourif, and he really liked my costume. He told me about all the things he had to go through wearing the costume during LOTR filming, and when he signed a Grima photo for me, he made it out "to my double, Jace... Wow!" #^__^#
Do you participate in masquerades?
Occasionally. Its not a priority. I just do it when I feel like it.
What was your best masquerade experience?
A-kon 14, not so much for what happened during the masquerade as what happened after. When the masquerade was over all these guys who had seen me on stage on the A-kon TV came down to tell me how much they liked my Starscream costume, and people were giving me pocky, dollar bills and marrage proposals. It was the most bizarre thing I'd ever seen. Flattering, but strange.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Yes. The trophies are currently buried behind a display of action figures collecting dust.^^; Yay, toys! ;D
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm just pretty much a hermit who sits in a little room making costumes and drawing when I'm not working.
