What got you into cosplay?
The need for a great costume, all of which just happen to come from anime and video games...
I started cosplaying in 2004 after a friend invited me to a convention. I knew I had to go in costume, and I've been going in costume ever since then.
What was your first costume and why?
Etna from Disgaea. I was debating between her and Nel Zelpher from Star Ocean 3, and I went with Etna because she seemed like more fun.
What is your favorite costume and why?
I love all my costumes. I'm getting better with every new costume I make, and I have so many new ideas. I'm getting very ambitious, and I'm really trying hard to do my best with every new endeavor, so every costume ends up becoming my favorite costume :)
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
I'd love to make a Shana in Dragoon form costume from Legend of Dragoon...so intricate. My ultimate costume would be Danielle's Just Breathe Gown from "Ever After," which would require vast amounts of money and time that I don't have at the present, but I am researching and collecting materials ^.^
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
So far, I'd say it was Anime USA 2006. I won Best Overall Craftsmanship and Best of Weekend Hall for my Kelvena (which was a brand new cosplay) and Feena respectively, and was awarded by Marty Gear and Karen and Ricky Dick, three of the top-most costumers in America, who founded the International Costumers' Guild and CostumeCon. I nearly died up on stage with such greatness! Definitely the best experience so far.
Do you participate in masquerades?
Yes, but mostly as a walk-on. Actual skits are something else!
What was your best masquerade experience?
My KamikazeCon skit. All the walk-ons were full, so I had to do a skit. It was solo, but I was pretty much second place (if they gave awards for that). It was so much fun making people laugh : )
A close second would be my walk-on for Anime Mid-Atlantic 07. I was tired of just doing the "walk on, pose, walk off" thing, so I set my poses to a 45 second clip of "Walk This Way" by Aerosmith and Run DMC. I had a lot of fun strutting on stage to the music and posing. And Jack Sparrow chased after me ^.^
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Yes! 14 major and 1 minor so far. Details are related with each costume, if you want to know specifics. But I love competing and honing my experience, and don't plan on stopping anytime soon.
Tell us a little about yourself
Let's see...playing video games, reading, swimming, singing, blah blah blah, being the hero by day and the demon by night.
I'm currently engaged to a wonderful man (that I'm trying to get to cosplay more), have some wonderful cosplay friends, and I couldn't be happier ^.^
Seriously, though, I really love making costumes, as well as my own clothing, and I'm always coming up with new and more ambitious ideas. I try very hard to remain true to the spirit of the characters I cosplay and recreate them as accurately as I can. I'm always trying to improve my skills so I can craft my costumes more professionally, but I'm mostly in it for the fun I have walking around like a big nerd.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Being the master of Prinnies isn't all that great. I mean, they say "dood" all the time and it gets SOO annoying!! Killing Prinnies is always fun. So is teasing boys.
