What got you into cosplay?
Initially it was Star Wars, since I became an ardent, passionate fan of it in '99. Since then I've continued in the SW cosplaying (movies and "Clone Wars"), and have expanded to the Buffy/Angelverse, "Harry Potter", "Moulin Rouge!", Xena and even movies like "Interview With The Vampire"....with many more still to come! :D
What was your first costume and why?
My first costume ever was a generic Jedi, regular cream tunics and a deep brown robe - listed as Old Republic in the RL. :)
What is your favorite costume and why?
At present for me it would likely be a tie between: my "Angel" Illyria costume, which I made, and the full screen-accurate Anakin Skywalker/Vaderkin ROTS costume kit I amassed and which has always been a real pride and joy. :)
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Perhaps it's hard to say, since there are multiple costumes I'm either working on now or will be very shortly, and others which will be commissioned....so in that sense they're dreams which will soon enough become reality. :) Otherwise, however, I guess I would say....Commodus' Germania arrival attire from "Gladiator"....or even a Dementor from HP....?
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Certainly even just walking around a convention, e.g. SDCC, in full costume can be an absolute joy and phenomenally empowering, in my experience; I remember doing so in my Illyria and getting a praising shout-out from Vincent Kartheiser (Connor, "Angel") on the street out front....and then, five minutes later, having my pic taken with Peter David (who was working on the Fallen Angel/Illyria crossover comic at the time).
Do you participate in masquerades?
Yes indeed I do, with one formally done so far and many more still yet to come, I hope and expect! :)
What was your best masquerade experience?
I suppose the Anime LA skit I took part in, for the actual masquerade, was right up there....always such tremendous, empowering fun to be in the Illyria kit 'n' costume, and then in context of the skit I got to imperiously stand and glare around (in appropriate God-Kingly fashion) with my foot firmly planted on the chest of Spike as he thrashed and flailed about....LOL!
I've also engaged in lightsaber stage combat whilst in both my CW Asajj Ventress and ROTS Anakin costumes, which is always an awesomely invigorating experience - and a real crowd-pleaser too, it seems! :D
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
I won an Honourable Mention for Detail award for my Illyria costume in the Anime Los Angeles 2010 Masquerade - nice little ribbon and certificate! :)
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm eagerly looking to venture out to do my costuming and cosplaying fair anywhere and everywhere I can - for sheer love of it, and because in a way I do feel most of all truly "myself" when I'm in (various) character. You know what I mean. :) As a result, I'm very much hopeful to venture and move far afield....wherever costuming and fandom and my destiny will surely take me! :D
I do have a lovely family, natch, but no doubt of it that I'm by far and away the geekiest one of the bunch....they all seem proud of and impressed enough by my costuming, at least. :D
Hobby-wise, I suppose, I'm an actor and ardent writer, RP'er, movie-maker, pretty much everything one might expect because these are the dramatic, vivid creative avenues in which I thrive most highly. :)
My favorite game(s)
KOTOR I and II; BTVS; Lego SW; "Revenge of the Sith"....no doubt seeing a pattern here, I'm sure. :D
My favorite book(s)
The HP Saga; all the various SW movie behind-the-scenes books, Visual Guides, etc....
My favorite character(s)
It will, I'm sure, come as no surprise given the nature of my cosplaying and costuming, but: Anakin Skywalker, Padme Amidala, Qui-Gon Jinn - really any and all SW! - and very much Drusilla and Illyria, from the 'verse.... Also Callisto (Xena), Bellatrix, really any o' the delicious baddies or villainous types who somehow just always have the coolest outfits imaginable....and not by coincidence either, I'm sure. :D
My favorite movies(s)
Of course, the entire SW Saga - the prequels first for me! - and "Clone Wars" too, big-time....and all the "Harry Potter" movies besides! :)
My favorite actors/actresses
Hayden Christensen....such a handsomely tasty dish, of course, and yet even more a beautiful, compelling, screen-mesmerizing presence and an actor of marvellous nuance and intricacy, who can convey endless worlds of emotion and meaning with even but his eyes alone. :D
