About Me / Q&A

What got you into cosplay?
What really got me into cosplay was the first cosplay competition in Malta, held at Malta Comic Con 2009, and the subsequent meetings with MICA, the local cosplay organisation. I'd heard about cosplay before, and it sounded like fun. So in 2009 I took the plunge and commissioned a local seamstress to whip up an Alice style dress out of linen (still have that dress, it's the one from my profile picture)
What was your first costume and why?
American McGee's Alice. I have yet to play the game :( but I was intrigued by the character. I did not make the costume, though some day I hope to. The first cosplay I made was Violet Baudelaire (A Series of Unfortunate Events). I wanted to do well in the cosplay competition at Malta Comic Con 2010, and delibaratley picked a difficult but impressive (if somewhat obscure) costume. I'm very pleased with it, considering how much of an amateur I was when I made it.
What is your favorite costume and why?
Hard to say. I love my Sweet Pea costume: it looks great. It was also the hardest to construct: I had to severly alter a princess line dress to get the right look. Babydoll is also a lot of fun to wear: I just wish that I had the proper holster and scabbard.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
At the moment, Alice's red hearts dress from Alice: Madness Returns. As is Xena's outfit.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
-Participating as a judge for Comic Con 2010 (Saturday competition) and the MICA HAlloween cosplay contest. I was thrilled that, despite my limited experience, I was considered to be competent enough to judge a contest. -Appearing on Maltese television, on the show "Hadd Ghalik". -my group winning the 2011 Malta Comic Con Cosplay Contest, in the group skit catagory.
Do you participate in masquerades?
Every year at Malta Comic Con I've competed.
What was your best masquerade experience?
Malta Comic Con 2011. I placed second in the individual skit catagory the year before as VIolet, but this year we did a group skit based on Sucker Punch, and we won.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
I won second place at the Malta Comic COn 2010 contest (got a book for a game similar to Dungeons and Dragons. My brother and his D&D group are probbaly making very good use of it :) ) -I formed part of the group that won the group cosplay skit at Malta Comic Con 2011. It's amazing how well Cabaret and Sucker Punch mix.
Tell us a little about yourself
