GreenFire
Hello, I'm GreenFire, though I also go by Junabi.
I've been cosplaying since 2002 (earlier if you count the little mermaid and jasmine costumes I insisted on having a child) and see no end in sight. So far I've won one major award in a masquerade (best in class Journeyman) and a slew of hall cosplay awards from cons ranging from AnimeDetour to CostumeCon.
I'm not sure what else to write here; so please explore and enjoy my galleries. I hope I can help prove that you don't need to be a twig to be a good cosplayer.
What got you into cosplay?
A love of anime and conventions. I was raised as a geek (I was watching Star Trek inutero, started anime in 4th grade) and loved seeing pictures from Star Trek conventions with all of the officers and klingons everywhere. I also wanted to go do that myself. So when I went to my first convention I didn't even see not cosplaying as an option.
What was your first costume and why?
My first costume was Lina Inverse. She was my role model from The Slayers. I was going to my first convention and decided I had to go as her.
Actually...if we're counting costumes someone else made for me, my first cosplay was Ariel from the Little Mermaid when I was around 5.
What is your favorite costume and why?
I have so many favorites:
-Miaka because I look enough like her to pull her off without much effort.
-Snowe because even though his look shouldn't work on me somehow it does and looks good (imo).
-Kaiba because he's just a fun character, and I've been able to fool so many people that I'm actually a guy.
-Roxas because keyblades are just fun :)
I can't choose a favorite, I either hate a costume or love it, no inbetween.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Neo Queen Serenity, one that defies the laws of physics so it's both skin tight and flowy like it is in the anime. With a perfect wig of course.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
I was at Convergence 2004 dressed as Kaiba from YuGiOh with my friend dressed as Yami Yugi. This little girl who couldn't have been more than 4 came up to us and gave Yami a big hug. Then she looked at me and said "You're bad!" It was the cutest thing I've ever seen. I still don't know how to reply to that.
Do you participate in masquerades?
When I can. I used to perform for skits, and wouldn't decide to enter until I got to the con. As my skill have improved I've moved toward walk-ons and performances that show off the costume itself.
What was your best masquerade experience?
Convergence2005. CapsuleCorp and I were wearing the Kaiba and Yami costumes from the Legendary Heroes arc. Our skit started with the yugioh theme song playing in the background before we went onstage. We could hear the audience groan and say "omg it's ygo". Then we went out and instantly the audience changed to "OOOO!"
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Best in Class Journeyman - CONvergence
3 hall cosplay awards - CostumeCon25
Honorary Mention Workmanship - CONvergence
Award of Excellence - Detour Masquerade
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm a recent college graduate, just getting into this thing called "Real Life." I'm enjoying being out on my own though especially since my apartment has basically become a costuming studio, which is something I never could have done before now.
My family is mostly ok with my cosplay hobby, though they've been less so since they realized it's not something you grow out of. My sister is in school to be a seamstress so sewing is pretty common around that house.
Hobbies other than cosplay? I love to draw, I have my art up on deviantart, ygallery and my own webpage under the same name as here. I occasionally write, but usually only about one short story a year. I've recently gotten more into gaming and roleplaying online and in real life with LARP. But I see roleplaying as a natural extension from cosplaying, or I suppose vice versa, so it's not that surprising.
My favorite anime
Again with the favorites, I can't choose. I'll go with the ones that have been most influencial instead:
Sailor Moon - first anime and gateway drug
The Slayers - cemented me into the fandom
Fushigi Yugi - first step into yaoi fandom
Yu Yu Hakusho - cemented yaoi fandom and introduced me to my current cosplay group.
There's so many more that I love, I hate these "favorite questions"
My favorite game(s)
Kingdom Hearts 2!!
Ok, so that 'favorite' question was easy...
