What got you into cosplay?
I've been to many anime conventions, notably Nan Desu Kan, Sakura-Con, Anime Expo and Kumori-Con My first convention was in 1999 with NDK 3 and I really wanted to go in a costume, but never figured out what to do. Seeing all the costumers made me really want to participate in it.
What was your first costume and why?
My first real costume was Canal Vorfeed from Lost Universe, and it was a female character. Why crossplay as my first costume? Well, personally, Canal has to be my all time favorite character ever, and I seem to have a thing for the maid dress uniform. Not that I would wear it as an everyday thing, but it was just something I wanted to try, and I did it at NDK 2004.
What is your favorite costume and why?
Currently, my Roy Mustang Costume. My name happens to be Roy and I just liked his character from the anime/manga of Fullmetal Alchemist. I was also part of the military, I enjoy fire (o.O), have black hair... and jeez, you just don't find many characters named Roy in anime these days. XD It was and has been a perfect match for me, and I've had a fun time cosplay as him. =)
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
For next year, I have several ones I wanted to have done. One is Chrno from Chrono Crusade and the other is Mahoro from Mahoromatic. I'll actually choose the Chrno one more than likely though.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Well, the one thing that does stick in my mind from NDK 2004 was when I got up on stage for the costume contest. It was quite a thrill to be in something like the Canal costume and actually have people cheering for me, even if they knew I was really a guy. It was sometimes difficult for people to figure out that I was really a guy under the dress and wig, which was actually humerous to me. It was a good time altogether!
Do you participate in masquerades?
Yes I do.
What was your best masquerade experience?
Well, last year's NDK 2004 Masquerade Dance was kinda funny since I changed costumes for it, and was in my Rei Ayanami school uniform for the dance. Since I was using fake (but realistic) breasts with the bra (yes, I wore the entire girl undergarment thing..), people really had a hard time guessing I was a guy. Still, dancing in the ball with friends around was still enjoyable, even if I was in heels.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Not yet, and I'd hope not since I don't make them (yet). =p
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm a college student. I have many hobbies to include drawing, AMV directing and lots of random gaming skills (lol). I was born and raised in Colorado, leaving the state for an extended period of time for the first time in 2000, where I joined the US Army after high school. I served 4 years, being stationed in Georgia for the majority of my military carrer, and served 10 months in Kuwait/Iraq and spearheaded Operation Iraqi Freedom as part of the 123d Signal Battalion with the 3rd Infantry Division. Currently trying to finish my degree and enjoying a partime job at Best Buy as one of the Geek Squad. Hobbies include anime (duh), drawing (anime/manga style), studying Japanese and the Japanese culture, enjoying Japanese music (J-pop/Anime), video gaming (PC,PS2,XB360), watching anime, reading manga. I'm all about the Japanese culture and I am very enthusiastic about anything Japanese.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I went to Japan for the first time this last Summer for 2 weeks... it was far too short. I want to go back soon and for a longer period of time.
