What got you into cosplay?
The costumes! I'm always into a new reason to dress up!
What was your first costume and why?
Queen Elizabeth I: corset, bustle and all. It was for a Shakespearean Festival, and I was too inexperienced to realize how hard it would be to sew. But man! All the weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth was so worth it!
What is your favorite costume and why?
It's a toss-up between the Miss Relena costume I sewed for Nat-chan and the full Legolas (complete with tooled leather) I did for my sister-in-law, the biggest Legolas fan of all man-kind. I loved them becasue they were challenging, but I had so much fun working on them.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
One of these days I will make a Marie Weather dress and a "English-ized" Kimono from Godchild, as well as a Kohaku angel outfit from Clamp's Wish. I also want to make a Soceress Uniform from Meru Puri. All of them are frilly and intricate.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
The day I got glomped, not because I was in costume (I was, but anyway) but because I had made a costume that someone else was wearing and the fan loved it!
Do you participate in masquerades?
What was your best masquerade experience?
When I walked my daughter, who was two at the time, onto the Masquerade stage at Anime Vegas 2005. She was dressed as Momiji Sohma from Fruits Basket. The crowd was so loud screaming how "Kawaii" she was that we couldn't even hear her background music. She waved at the audience and grinned like a trooper. She was fantastic!
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
My Fruits Basket group won "Best in Show" for costume constuction, and my daughter won "Director's Choice" at Anime Vegas 2005.
The "No Life Kings" (my cosplay group) won "Best in Show: Cosume Construction" for our Hellsing cosplay at Anime Vegas in 2006
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm married with a 3 year old Daughter named Miranda. I LOVE my job as a Librarian. My library has a pretty exstensive collection of Manga because I help order the Young Adult books! (Yay! Spending someone else's money on manga!) I Sing, Sew, play D&D 3.5 ed. and collect as much Managa and Anime as my budget can afford. I married to my D&D DM and he's a saint who supports my cosply habit.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I sewed profesionally for the Old Lyric Theater Company and The Utah Shakespearian Festival before devoting myself to cosplay.
