What got you into cosplay?
I love to sew and craft. I originally started by sewing costumes for me to wear to the local renn fair, got really good at those, then moved on to sewing costumes for theatre.
What was your first costume and why?
My first cosplay was the steampunk angel. I think this was my first because I was really into steampunk at that time and had just found an awesome tutorial on how to make wings out of paper plates so I though, "Damn, let's throw this all this together and make a cosplay!".
What is your favorite costume and why?
So far, I love my "Sexy" Riza Hawkeye because it was my original design, my first cosplay of an actual character, and I got so many complements when I wore - most telling me how much all of me really looked like the character if she lived in the real world. Chances are, when I'm done with my next cosplay, it will probably become my favorite too.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
I'm really looking forward to making my version of Edward Elric. Other than that, I'm still being introduced to new animes and mangas so I don't know all the costumes so I don't really have that "awesome, ultimate, dream" costume yet.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Otakon 2011. It was my first official cosplay and I was so worried about how people would react and what they would say. I got so many complements and photos taken - it was a giant ego boost and what has made me decide I'm going to enter the costume contest in 2012.
Do you participate in masquerades?
Not yet. I have not found a group to cosplay with and it's only with a group I would do these. I do have a younger sister who is interested in anime/mange so who knows . . .
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Not yet but look out for me next year (2012) at Otakon!
Tell us a little about yourself
I am in school but not the way you think - I'm a middle school science teacher. I really like my job and I love the fact that I don't have as much to focus on in the summer so I can spend lots of time on cosplays. I don't have any children but I do have an annoying cat the fulfills his job of laying all over my fabric to add his fur to my cosplay. Besides sewing and crafting, I like to read, garden, and cook (especially ethnic food).
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
My favorite anime
As of now, I really love FMA, East of Eden, Naruto, Hetalia, and D.Grey-Man . . . I know, I know, mostly mainstream but give me time and I'll have more here.
My favorite game(s)
Video Games - Professor Layton, Portal, and any other puzzle based games.
Board/Card Games - FLUX!, Apples to Apples, and Bananagrams
My favorite book(s)
I just finished reading the Hunger Games and really enjoyed it. Other than that, I really like books by Margret Atwood and just in general like the Science Fiction Genre. Oh, and cook books with pretty pictures . . . it's like eating with my eyes!
My favorite character(s)
Riza Hawkeye (hence why she was my first cosplay) and any other strong, bad-ass female characters.
My favorite movies(s)
Gattaca (because I am a genetics major). I also love most other movies, including kids movies, with the exception of horror movies. I'm just not a fan of having to change my underwear after a movie.
My favorite actors/actresses
Hmm, can't really think of a specific one. It depends on the movie as well.
