What got you into cosplay?
I've been sewing for as long as I can remember, so when I got (dragged) into anime in high school, it was really a natural leap.
What was your first costume and why?
Lain from Serial Experiments: Lain. It was actually the first anime I ever watched (and it's still one of my favourites to this day), and again, it was a natural leap.
What is your favorite costume and why?
I love many of my costumes for different reasons. I love my Pika dearly, since she's an original design, not a recreation, and I love the reaction I get from people. Malon and Angel Starr are great since I don't need a wig for either. Queen Mary, while being an elaborate costume, is actually one of my quickest to put on, owing to the one-piece dress with hooks and eyes up the front, and lack of tedious hair primping. ;)
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
That changes constantly. I've got a couple dream costumes slotted for various upcoming conventions... So not something specific, but anything that utilizes techniques I don't know yet but want to learn.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Walking onstage at CostumeCon in the Pika, and getting laughter and cheers from the whole audience, especially the GBACG members in the crowd. It was a first-masquerade experience everyone should get a chance to have, and that's what got me hooked on entering the darn things.
Do you participate in masquerades?
*looks up* Um, yeah, a bit. ;) I really love getting audience reactions, as well as getting to inspect other awesome costumes backstage.
What was your best masquerade experience?
The premiere of the Pika was my most memorable, but my best experience was at ALA 06. I've known Kevin Roche, the masq organizer, for awhile, and he decided to put myself and Kokuu as the last skit, saying he trusted me to be a good finish.. which of course set the butterflies loose in a way you can't imagine. But we pulled it off, got the crowd roaring, and the best moment was after the masq, when he told me he was right to trust me. :)))))
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm currently an art major (ceramics emphasis) working on my BA at a California university. I used to work at Beverly's, a west coast fabric & craft store, where they stuck me in charge of scrapbooking, aka the farthest corner from the fabric. ;____; I'm currently [procrastinating on] looking for a new job, having moved three hours north of my old one.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Don't mess with the pika. She'll blast your ass into next week.
