About Me / Q&A

What got you into cosplay?
I didn't get heavily into cosplay until 2005, when I started working on a Terra (Final Fantasy VI) outfit for the Dear Friends concert, and I had a great time making/wearing it!
What was your first costume and why?
I consider my "first" costume to be the Rockman.EXE one I constructed for Anime North in 2003. It was my first con and the first time I made a costume with the intent of "cosplay" rather than "Halloween".
What is your favorite costume and why?
Probably Terra. The outfit is relatively comfortable and I love the look of it. It doesn't fit me anymore - I miss it!
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
I've already made it! Opera Celes from Final Fantasy VI. Unfortunately, I just don't have the sewing skill to do her dress justice, and it's not good for long periods of wear or certain conditions, but it'll always be my dream costume.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
All of my cosplay experiences have been great! There was the "they won't let us eat!" half-hour walk across the street to Burger King in 2003 - we had to stop for photos every three seconds - and the fun times in the Otakon Art Room, there was the FFVI photoshoot at Otakon '05, and the costume contest at Dear Friends. All of my memories of Ota-Rockman - from the crab battles to the Burger King journeys - have been very memorable!
Do you participate in masquerades?
Nope. I did once, and it wasn't particularly great, so never repeated the occurrence.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
I won some Dear Friends swag at a costume contest there, does that count? XP
Tell us a little about yourself
I moved to Japan, so I fell out of the con and cosplay circuit for the meantime I had and have a lot of other hobbies; I favour old-school video games, particularly Super Nintendo-era.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I like the minimalist approach, which is probably why I tend more towards the sprite versions of outfits rather than looking at concept art. All my Final Fantasy costumes - or those that are planned - are the sprite versions, with the example of Opera Celes. I love looking at other peoples' Amano costumes, but I prefer to go with sprites or FMVs myself.
