What got you into cosplay?
Wow! It's been so long since I've updated this thing! Anyway, I got into cosplay through 4-H more than anything else. I made my first costume when I was 10 for a rabbit dress-up competition. I dressed my rabbit and I as Jedi. I had a friend in 4-H who told me about anime conventions and cosplaying, but I didn't go to a convention until high school when I went to my first sci-fi con.
What was your first costume and why?
The Jedi costume (hot-glued together) was the first one I MADE, but I attempted Sailor Moon a year later. My first REAL costume (a.k.a. costume that actually looked good) was a Renaissance costume with a bodice, full skirt, and shift. I still wear the shift, but the rest of it looks pretty shoddy compared with anything I've made lately.
What is your favorite costume and why?
My favorite cosplay is definately Snape. He is one of my very favorite characters from ANYTHING, and his costume was a dream cosplay of mine since I first saw the first film (before that, I attempted Snape by wearing all black with a billowy cape). The costume is fun to wear even if it's stiflingly hot under all of those layers.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
At this point, my only DREAM costume is a beautiful fairy costume with drippy-looking wings. I say it's my only dream costume because it's the only costume I want to make that I don't think I have the skills to make yet.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
I've never gotten so much attention as I did with my Sailor Soviet costume. I was surprised that all of the attention was good when I was wearing something with "extremely repressive Communist regime" written all over it. Everyone wanted to hug me, and everyone wanted to play with my giant sickle. I think the most memorable moment was when a VERY tall guy (in six-inch heels to boot) dressed as Eternal Sailor Moon asked for a hug. His eyes were sparkling like he was about to cry with happiness.
Do you participate in masquerades?
I only do sci-fi con masquerades so far. Too much drama in the anime ones.
What was your best masquerade experience?
This year's Archon masquerade was amazing... even though I was soooo sick that I could barely talk. Mikhail and I competed as Kadaj and Vincent, and we got four of our friends to join us for the skit. It was a really funny skit, and we had so much fun. I got a nice bruise on my thigh when I fell down on stage, but I think the judges thought I meant to do it because we won Best of Anime Class.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Hall costume award at Marcon 40 for or Natasha Volkova, second place at Anime St. Louis '06 for Jin, Best of Anime Class at Archon 30 for Kadaj and Vincent and our "Fanboys" skit.
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm a college film major with less than $1000 dollars to my name... I work on costumes between my classes, job, and club meetings (I'm president of my school's Anime Society). I'm also one of the co-chairs of Anime St. Louis.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I only dress as characters I like unless Mikhail begs me to cosplay with him. That's why my costumes might not be the most challenging in the world. I love what I do though, and that's all that matters.
My favorite anime
I love, love silly anime. Excel Saga is one of my favorite shows. Besides that, I love Samurai Champloo, Rurouni Kenshin, Samurai 7, Kyou Kara Maou!, Peacemaker Kurogane, Fullmetal Alchemist, and many more!
My favorite game(s)
Tag? No, I know you mean video games. Of course, I love Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger. Besides RPGs, I play Grand Theft Auto, Dance Dance Revolution, and Super Smash Bros.
My favorite book(s)
Classics, especially Russian novels. Now I'm a Tower Junkie (Stephen King's Dark Tower). My favourite books are probably The Great Gatsby, Crime and Punishment, and The Master and Margarita.
My favorite character(s)
From what? Games? Movies? Shows? My favorite character from ANYTHING is Snape. I loved him before Snape's Worst Memory, but I felt for him even more after that. I don't believe he's a bad person. In fact, I believe that he really does care a lot about Dumbledore and definately Malfoy. I believe what happened in the sixth book shows that he truly would do anything, including being hated by the entire wizarding world, to save someone he cares about. I love Sephiroth. Who doesn't? ;-) Why do I go for the crazy, murderous ones? Snape is my ultimate favorite character. He's intelligent, which is the most important characteristic for a good character. He has an interesting backstory full of lies and self-discovery. Maybe I'm just trying to justify liking him, but I think he's a very deep character.
My favorite movies(s)
A Clockwork Orange, Pink Floyd The Wall, Red Beard... I'm a film major, so I like a lot of films. There's no use in listing them all here, though.
My favorite actors/actresses
Sir Ian McKellen Alan Rickman

Kadaj
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
