What got you into cosplay?
I am one of the many lucky geeks that landed a job with one of Universal Studio's 3rd Party Contractors. Some 3rd Party Contractor vendors and entertainers must design their own costumes and have them approved by wardrobe and costuming. I was also lucky enough to get to use one of my characters costume design's from my self published manga "Oh, Captain!" named "Captain Blue" as a way to promote Star Souls during Halloween Horror Nights one year. After the event was over I decided to use the costume to promote the comic itself as well... and discovered as I started traveling these conventions to sell my artwork and comics, that dressing up in costume or "cosplay" is not uncommon at all... and fell in love with the concept of doing it for fun... not just for work.

What is your favorite costume and why?
Right now it's my Carmen Costume because it's my first just for fun.. "Hey! This is my fandom." costume. I also designed this one to be easy to slip in and out. I feel I succeeded. I really like how much more comfortable it is compared to my other costumes It's so comfortable. Especially in the winter. Those who recognize Carmen are thrilled to see someone walking around as her.. It helps me to find fellow nostalgic fans easily... and those who don't know about Carmen just think I'm a very "classy" lady. Men ask to buy me drinks at clubs, waiters are more timely and hospitable then they normally are, and employees at the mall are exceedingly attentive. Having this effect thrills me because I love creating false impressions based on aethestics, for better or for worse. I'm utterly fascinated with how society has certain pre-conceived notions about people based on their appearance alone... so this costume allows me to see the flip side of the negative attention cosplay usually garnishes.

Doing Captain at IAAPA ^_^
Do you participate in masquerades?
I participate as a "special guest" judge sometimes.
What was your best masquerade experience?
Persacon. Every year. Love that con.
Anime Festival Wichita is now a close second though.
Tell us a little about yourself
I like to listen to old skool video game remixes while I draw, I love ice skating but rarely have the oppurtunity to do so, when I was a kid I hated theme parks, and now my lifes dream is to help design one, I've collected so many t-shirts that I could go about 2 1/2 months without having to wash a single shirt before running out, I also love collecting Nintendo paraphernalia. I'm VERY nostalgic and cling to alot of media from the 80's and 90's and have an affinity for fashion and music inspired from the 20's and 30's.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I like to cosplay things that haven't been done before. I love seeing original designs entered in cosplay contests. I prefer small cons but occasionally attend larger ones. After I do, I always get a headache and remember why I prefer small cons. I am constantly trying to find ways to give talented cosplayers the oppurtunity to show off their talent.
