About Me / Q&A

What got you into cosplay?
When I was a 'tween' my best friend was into anime, and invited me to join her on a trip to Sakura Con for the day. I really wanted to go, but wasn't allowed. This peaked my interest in anime however, so when my older brother started cosplaying from video games and anime I jumped right in. Before that, I had always put together my own halloween costumes, so the medium of cosplay was perfect for me. Since my interest gained, and my brother took me to my first Sakura Con in 2009, I've attended it 5 years, gone to Emerald City Comic Con at least 6 years, PAX Prime 3 times, and various other small conventions in between.
What was your first costume and why?
My first real cosplay costume was an original rendition of Harley Quinn from the batman series, in 2009. When I wanted to do a comic cosplay, my boyfriend suggested her to me, and I had already been fond of the character from the 90's cartoon. I learned everything I could about her, and eventually made my costume. The costume was remade more than twice, and now, it's "done" but I feel as though I'll always be redoing/doing different versions of this beloved character, Harley Quinn.
What is your favorite costume and why?
Of all the costumes I've done, its hard to pick one- seeing as I've lost count. Only 7 or so of them have been cosplay however, and of those I think that my favorite may have to be Tsubaki from Soul eater. It was a solid looking costume, one of my most successful and comfortable. Yuffie from final Fantasy 7, I also loved for the challenge and the quality that eventually came from it, after remaking it 3 times.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
There are too many costumes to count in my dreams! One on the list that I still have yet to complete is Rosa from Final Fantasy 4- because I want to include every painstaking detail. You could call Rosa my 'white whale' of cosplay. But I'll finish it one day.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Going to con's with my husband and my Best friend. I love having people admire my handy work, share tips, take photo's, and especially all the hugs you get. <3
Do you participate in masquerades?
I attended the masquerade held by Sakura con a few times, but once they 'dropped the ball' so to speak, I stopped. The last year I went to Sakura con, all my favorite events from before, such as the Masquerade, had really lost their quality and charm. The dress code was very lax and confused- some people were in line wearing flip flops and Convers while a friend of mine couldn't enter wearing black sneakers. Then the lights and music were not formal, but more like a highschool dance, or the 'rave' the Convention holds.
What was your best masquerade experience?
The best experience I had at the Masquerade was one year where it was really nicely facilitated with music meant for dancing in pairs. Two of my best lady-friends and I kept count, who would be asked to dance the most. My friend Lydia was gorgeous that evening, and had 7 different strangers all want to dance with her! Needless to say, she won, and it was a lot of fun.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
No yet I haven't. ;D {It's a goal}
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm a 23 year old artist living in the North End just outside of downtown, with 3 parrots and a Husband. Sounds like a sitcom setup doesn't it? That aside, I attend college and am about to finish my Associates degree with an Emphasis in Anthropology. As a student in the day and waitress in the evening- I struggle to keep up with my artistic Hobbies. But when I do them, I love sculpture, cosplay, and drawing. As of late, I've really been trying to apply my sketching to cartography (map making) for the development of a Dungeons and Dragons Campaign. I still go to the occasional convention, such as PAX Prime, but haven't made a costume since Halloween of 2015. (Too long if you ask me!). I also still hang out with the same friends that usually attend conventions with me, every Tuesday night for games of D&D. I'm just one very busy, nerdy artist- who's itching to get back into actively Cosplaying.
My favorite anime
My favorite Series of manga/anime is Nabari No Ou, but among other favorites are Claymore, D. Gray-Man, Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro, and Your Lie In April.
My favorite game(s)
Is it weird that I'd rather watch people play, then play them myself? I do play Animal Crossing however, and really enjoyed the few hours I played Final Fantasy 15 (For the story I just ended up watching my Husband play the rest though.)
My favorite character(s)
Yoite From Nabari No Ou, Jean & Phantom Miria from Claymore, Tsubaki from Soul Eater, D from Vampire Hunter D (Novels), Erza from Fairy Tail, Allen from D. Gray-man, Harley Quinn (Before New 52)
