What got you into cosplay?
A friend of mine attended Nan Desu Kan back in 2000 and said that he'd had a lot of fun. He told me about this thing called cosplay, and suggested I try it.
What was your first costume and why?
Selphie from Final Fantasy VIII was my first costume. A friend kept telling me that I would make a great Selphie, and since I had really enjoyed playing the game, I decided to try her. My mom made most of that costume, and no good pictures exist to this day, but I loved doing it.
What is your favorite costume and why?
I have several. I love my Gun Mage Rikku costume because I feel like I did a really great job on it, and also because so many new things I tried for that costume turned out well. I think it's really pretty.
My other favorite is my first Dead or Alive Ayane costume. I remember having such fun making it, and wearing it was a hoot, since lots of people would come up and really compliment it, and ask how I did the bow.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
I've done some of my dream costumes. I think I don't really have a costume in mind I haven't achieved (maybe Berserker Rikku), because with every costume I promise myself to try something new or learn a new skill. Costumes aren't really dreams for me, but chances to learn. I might actually make a costume from a series or game I'm not a huge fan of because a technique interests me so much.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
Probably wearing my Klaha outfit to AX. My friend and I had our photos taken *SO* many times, and it seemed that all photographers and other cosplayers were very supportive of us (via compliments, photos taken, etc.). I think it really showed me how fun costuming could be.
Other than that, group cosplay is one of my favorite things because it makes such an impression.
Do you participate in masquerades?
Yep. I've been in the masquerades for Nan Desu Kan, Anime Central, and Anime Expo.
What was your best masquerade experience?
I must admit, my best experience was winning a judge's choice award for my Ayane costume (the first one). It was so much fun to go up on stage and know my hard work had paid off.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Ayane (DoA 2: Hardcore): Judge's choice award at Acen 2003, 2nd Place in Anime Division at Starfest 2003.
White Rose: Judge's choice at Acen 2007, Best Craftsmanship and 2nd place Masters at NDK 2006
Relm: Several awards at AX 2006
Gabrielle: 2nd place Fantasy @ Starfest 2006
Gun Mage Rikku: Best Anime Presentation @ Costume Con 2005
