What got you into cosplay?
My girlfriend I had at the time decided at the last minute that we were going to attend AniZona 1 in April 2005 to see Yoshitaka Amano. I had always heard about conventions and the people who dress up for it (In fact I signed up here in 2002) and always wanted to get into that
What was your first costume and why?
Officially it's Spike Spiegel at Anime Expo 2005.
Originally I was supposed to be Vash the Stampede for AniZona 1 but was unable to get it underway in time (I do own a now broken gun and the glasses however)
People suggested Spike and realized I matched him in alot of aspects... the cosplay didn't seem complex so we wen't with it and it worked out!
Spike is alot of fun to cosplay
What is your favorite costume and why?
So far he's the only true character I cosplayed.
He's just alot of fun to walk around as... very casual... I'm not used to wearing shirts buttoned in the front so... moving around and trying to constantly remind myself not the snap the buttons in the front is the only "hassle" about being Spike.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Anything I have planned really haha.
At the moment, Alucard of Hellsing, Mugen of Samurai Champloo and Yamcha of Dragonball.
Yamcha would be a slight custom design I came up with... it would consist of the yellow suit he wears during the Buu Sega... but the back of the jacket as his old "Music" symbol print on it (the symbol he wore in the original Dragonball when he was still a Desert Bandit)
Other notible characters include Vash the Stampede, Vincent Valentine, Albert Wesker, Amarant Coral and a custom Black Mage design
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
The Cowboy Bebop gathering at Anime Expo 2005.
Also the girl who ran up to me in the line for Maaya Sakamoto's concert who told me I was her favorite Spike. :)
Day 0 at Anime Expo 2006... I was Spike again and no was was paying me any attention 'cus I wasn't Kingdom Hearts or Naruto heh.
I did eventually run into a group of Japanese people who all exclaimed my name in broken English and each one shook my hand before they all gathered to take pictures! After that I ran into them again but with more of there friends... who all did the same thing as the previous group.
I think that was the most pictures I have had taken of me in that costume... Which is fine by me. I'm happy to have pleased so many Japanese people with my cosplay :)
Do you participate in masquerades?
I was almost the half time entertainment with two of my friends for AniZona 3's Masquerade as the Nerima Daikon Brothers.
You could say the band "broke up" in the sense.
What was your best masquerade experience?
Preforming the song and dance we were gonna do as Nerima Daikon Brothers in full cosplay on stage AFTER Masquerade ended and a few people walked in on us.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Hall Award for Spike Spiegel at Phoenix Cactus ComiCon in 2008
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm an artist working on becoming published and leading my life the way I want to doing what I love to do and hopefully meeting a woman who supports me in that.
Been a fan of anime since I was in 5th grade and I really hope to see the industry blossom and not collapse.
Dont Bootleg, kids! You cheat yourself and the industry and those responsible for creating what you love
