What got you into cosplay?
When I first got into anime in 1997 I had wanted to dress up as the characters for Halloween. I ended up doing Princess Leia instead of Sailor Moon that year though, haha, and didn't do anime for '98 either... But when a friend and I collaborated on ideas, I ended up with an anime costume for Halloween in '99. We then wore those costumes together to my first convention in February of 2000. So really, I just got myself into cosplay. It was me that got most of my friends into it after that!
What was your first costume and why?
My first costume was Utena's duelist uniform from the TV series Shoujo Kakumei Utena. I picked it because I was doing a duo with my friend, and one of the ideas on our list was Utena & Anthy. We decided upon them because they seemed the most fun to do, and we both really loved the Utena series. Utena isn't my favorite character, though. Oh well!
What is your favorite costume and why?
Currently, it's my Live for Venus Haruka dress from The IDOLM@STER. From years past, it's probably Kuja from Final Fantasy IX.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Yes. All secret! :D
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
The most recent would be cosplaying at Tokyo Game Show 2007 and meeting some Japanese cosplayers that had costumes that matched mine, and taking photos together was really terrific.
Do you participate in masquerades?
Sometimes. I'm not a competitive cosplayer, because that side of the hobby doesn't interest me. I've been in cosplay group that participate in masquerades sometimes, but if it weren't for that I'd only join skits when somebody needed an extra body.
What was your best masquerade experience?
Anime Expo 2007, doing IDOLM@STER with Angel Hearts, perhaps.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Yes, but mostly just hall cosplay awards that were handed to me rather than me entering a contest. Like I said regarding masquerades, I'm not really into competing.
Tell us a little about yourself
I work in the video game industry, on the publishing side in production, and I love it. I don't have as much time for cosplay as I used to, but I still try to attend as many cons as I can. I live with my boyfriend and our two cats in a nice apartment near San Francisco. My main hobby besides cosplay is video games, and it has been my favorite past-time for over 20 years. I love music and reading, and studying Japanese. I'd love to be a translator someday, but I like my current job just fine.
