What got you into cosplay?
It all started when 2 of my friends were talking about an anime convention coming up soon and they invited me to check the event out. I spent one full day Saturday at Anime Central 2005 and experienced something like nothing before. A year later, I decided to buy & create my first cosplays and go out to have some fun at the conventions. A few of my friends around my local area talk about cosplay many times and I wanted to know what it is. They invited me to attend Anime Central in 2005 and I was amazed by the design of everyone's costumes. After that, I wanted to join the cosplay community myself, so at Anime Central 2006, I began cosplaying.
What was your first costume and why?
My very first costume I've made from scratch would be InuYasha. I never really had a reason why, I think it's the way InuYasha's character design looked. It intrigued me. My other costume was Dartz, from one of the well known series, Yu-Gi-Oh! I wanted to cosplay as Dartz because of his personality traits. Plus, since he's such an obscured character from the series, I thought it would be cool to pull out someone that not too many people would cosplay as.
What is your favorite costume and why?
I still love my Tsukasa outfit. It may not look like the best Tsukasa out there, but it looks better than the rest of my inventory. I'm sure I'll make better costumes in the future once my busy schedule slows down.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
I would love to make Frederic Chopin costume from the video game Eternal Sonata.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
There are many memorable moments in my short cosplay experience thus far. One I can recall is being in the middle of the largest cosplay gathering from one series, Naruto, at Anime Expo 2007. The number exceed to over 400. The sight of that many cosplayers were that amazing. The future is very unpredicatable, so there will be more memories to be made.
Do you participate in masquerades?
I do participate in masquerades and thus far all of my skits are written by me.
What was your best masquerade experience?
Anime Central 2008. Me with 5 of my other friends closed the Masquerade show with an exclamation point. We contained elements of a WoW commercial, Cloverfield, and 2Girls1Cup. The crowd was very entertained by our skit and lead us to win Judges Choice. It was truely a great accomplishment, especially for me since I've never won anything this big before.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Not at all. My skill level isn't up to par yet, but someday I'll participate and try to win one.
Tell us a little about yourself
I love to watch anime and play videogames. I'm a film student who likes to make movie shorts involving with cosplay. I don't really have anything much to say, except I'm developing my own gathering called SoyCon that will become annual meetup within the midwestern states. I've been working hard on this, so I'm hoping this gathering will become a huge success.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I am very determined to be the best that I am.
