About Me / Q&A

What got you into cosplay?
Initially, my mother, who is a talented seamstress and tailor, always had ideas and personal challenges with costumes for several occasions, such as Halloween. I remember as a child I always had the most bad ass costume due to the attention to detail and creative sense my mother had with presentation. As I grew older, my experience playing games and reading comics could not prepare me for the awesomeness that is the San Diego Comic Convention International. It was 1999 and I was in sheer awe of how enormous the event was and I couldn't get enough of it! The following years, I've attended the cons in one day sessions, but realized that there was so much more to see throughout the weekend, so I began purchasing 4-day passes, starting in 2003.
What was your first costume and why?
Dee Jay of Super Street Fighter II in 1994. My mother had made this costume for me to wear to a Halloween party when I was 7.
What is your favorite costume and why?
My favorite costume would have to be my Dan Hibiki costume from Street Fighter. Not only was it a unique experience walking the streets of San Diego in pink (after the Comic-Con), but I had ended up on the pages of the tenth issue of the Street Fighter comic book series (published by UDON Studios)!
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
I would love to make the perfect "'Tears' Iori" costume of King of Fighters! The trenchcoat that he dons is nothing less than spectacular.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
I have two; One was mentioned above with my favorite costume. The other would be when I cosplayed Zack from Final Fantasy VII. I was minding my own business walking along the hall of the San Diego Convention Center when suddenly, someone yelled out "ZACK!" Elated by the fact that someone finally reffered to me as the correct character (I was called Cloud that whole day), I turned around only to find a half-naked girl cosplaying Chocolate Misu lunging at me for a hug! We ended up going out after that!
Do you participate in masquerades?
I have decided not to. I have witnessed a travesty of epic proportions when they shunned an amazing display for something no where nearly as stunning. I'm straight up Hall now.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
My beautiful mug ended up in the Animerica website and issue 10 of Street Fighter. Also, Capcom artist, Shinkiro not only drew a sketch for me, but also took my picture! (Sketch of Dan Hibiki, pic of me as Iori Yagami)
Tell us a little about yourself
I am enlisted in the United States Navy, currently holding the rank of a Petty Officer Second Class (which is equivalent to a Sergeant in the Army and Marine Corps). Prior to my naval career, I was a luchador (Mexican Wrestler) and did quite well for the tiny group that we had. I am 6', I played the viola, and I also go by the alias "That Bastard in Black & Green". I am more of a gamer and a film buff than I am an otaku.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I love fighting games; Street Fighter, King of Fighters, Soul Calibur, just to name a few. With that in mind, I am an accomplished professional wrestler specializing in striking and submissions. I love comic books and am fascinated by super heroes; my father has a collection of comics from his time that I read and use in a game that I am making.
My favorite anime
I'm not, per se, an avid anime watcher by any means, but my favorite animes would have to be Ninja Scroll, Afro Samurai, Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, and Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie
My favorite game(s)
Easily, Street Fighter. Specifically, my favorite Street Fighter is a toss-up between Super Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter Alpha 3 Plus
My favorite book(s)
A Time to Kill by John Grisham
My favorite character(s)
Both Alex of Street Fighter III and Iori Yagami of King of Fighters equally. As soon as they both made an entry into their respective games, they have changed the face of their respective franchises. Alex defied all of stereotypes that wrestlers have by being a fast AND dominating in the game. Iori's solid handling and easy combo ability has left the players with nothing left to desire and surpasses all expectations by first, actually being a balanced character, and second by having a consistent personality.
My favorite movies(s)
Batman (1989) Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World Iron Man The Dark Knight Pulp Fiction The Godfather Part II
My favorite actors/actresses
Jack Nicholson. I sincerely appreciate his mastery of method acting and he is by far the most awesome old guy ever!
