What got you into cosplay?
I don't remember, specifically. I've always liked making my own costumes and things, so it was a natural progression, I guess. A friend of mine invited me to AnimeNEXT and said she was doing cosplay, and I decided (four days in advance) that not only was I going, but I was going to cosplay too. My mom loved that. >_>
What was your first costume and why?
Martel, from Fullmetal Alchemist. I seem to go more for the characters who are A) undercosplayed and B) look somewhat like me without a lot of work, i.e., contacts, wigs, etc. Martel was perfect at the time because my natural hair color is a dark blonde, and it was short already (and I didn't mind trimming it a little shorter to get the look I wanted). Otherwise, I love Martel as a character, along with the entire Devil's Nest crew.
What is your favorite costume and why?
I do love Martel... but Kankurou's gotten a bigger reception. Mostly because Martel hadn't shown up in the dub at the time I cosplayed her, so I only had half a fanbase, so to speak. However, I did get glomped by three people before I was even registered, which was awesome, and Travis Willingham (Roy's dub VA) recognized the character, which was nice. I expect Sasori will be my favorite once he's done. XD
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
At the moment, Sasori's puppet torso, but that's not really as unattainable and far-into-the-future as "dream costume". Potential candidates for that title, however, might include: Seifer, Kuja, Kadaj, anyone from Zelda, a dozen other characters from Naruto, Greed, Envy, Haruko (FLCL), etcetera, etcetera...
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
It all manages to be memorable in different ways (which is NOT me covering up for the fact that it all mostly turns into one giant blur after a few weeks, really...). The two things mentioned for my Martel costume were memorable, certainly. Kankurou had lots of memorable things about him, not the least of which was the fact that I ate perhaps two meals over the whole weekend and otherwise lived on caffeinated drinks. o_O Without crashing, and even managing to sleep at night. Connecticon was my first big con experience, overall. AnimeNEXT, I hung out with a couple of people, I was there one day, and had a good time. Connecticon, I was there all three days, I spent a ton of money in the dealer's room, I made one really good friend and a number of cosplaying acquaintences, and was totally exhausted and happy at the end. (Also couldn't talk or walk the day after I got home. ^_^) Anime Boston '07 will be my first time staying in the hotel the con is in, which will be exciting. That's assuming I don't die on the first day from heat exhaustion in my two-layers-of-spandex-and-one-of-Wonderflex puppet torso. >_>
Do you participate in masquerades?
Not yet, but I expect it's only a matter of time, despite the fact that I get horrible stage fright.
Tell us a little about yourself
I go to a community college about twenty minutes away from my house, and also work there, in a student aide job in the library. I love it there, and plan on staying until I run out of financial aid money. I live at home with my parents and our bajillion animals (more on that in a moment), and have no plans for leaving home ever, if I can help it. We're all equally happy about that idea. ^^ We have: Four dogs, three cats, three rats, seven fish of varying kinds, and about three dozen goldfish in a pond in the yard. I sleep as much as I can, and get almost nothing done around doing so. I draw and write sporadically in some of my free time, when I'm not playing World of Warcraft or Zelda: Twilight Princess, or something else. I make my own jewelry, which I hope to soon be selling online as a sub-section of my mom's knitting pattern site, which I'll be designing and building. I'm self-taught in HTML and CSS. :D Self-taught in a lot of things, actually. I have a frillion million books in my room, and don't read anything as much as I'd like. At least half of them are for drawing and writing references anyway. I love anime, manga, and video games, but not in that "I have every single one ever and am a nerd about it" kind of way. I own a small handfull of anime and manga which I adore, ditto for video games. However, I'll watch/read/play nearly anything that's reccomended to me. I do seem to like the weirder stuff, though. I daydream a lot. I don't drive, because the thought of it scares me. My normal expression is one that causes strangers to come up to me and ask "Are you alright? You look so sad." I've been mistaken for a pothead twice. I'm not religious, but spiritual. I believe in reincarnation, energy of things, polyamory, trees and animals having voices, procrastination, and not having to clean just because someone's coming over. I can do this for hours, but I'll stop now. ^^
My favorite anime
FLCL, Naruto, Wolf's Rain, Paranoia Agent, Petshop of Horrors, Fullmetal Alchemist, Escaflowne, Angel Sanctuary, Death Note
My favorite game(s)
Devil May Cry (1 and 3), Final Fantasy VII through X-2, but especially FFVIII, Dynasty Warriors 4, Katamari Damacy, Legend of Dragoon, Vagrant Story, N64 Zelda games, Zelda: Twilight Princess, WoW, Sims 2
My favorite book(s)
American Gods, Wraeththu, all of Tamora Pierce's stuff that I've read, and... other stuff that I can't think of right now.
My favorite character(s)
The list is endless, but I did create my own method of categorizing characters and scoring them, and found out that my absolute favorite character in each anime/game/whatever is one who's been betrayed by something/someone. *geek*
My favorite movies(s)
Anything Miazaki, PotC (CotBP and DMC), LotR, Victor Victoria, The Birdcage, Toys, Young Frankenstein, anything Marx Brothers, The Lion King, FFVII: AC, and more that I also can't think of.
My favorite actors/actresses
A bunch, but none off the top of my head, mostly because it changes from movie to movie.
