What got you into cosplay?
I started wanting to cosplay in 2010, but I wasn't sure how to get into it. Finally, when I was a senior in high school, I got my own job as a way to fund my cosplay and with the help of some friends began creating costumes!
What was your first costume and why?
Dirk Strider from Homestuck. He's still to this day my favorite character from Homestuck and I have a very deep connection with him.
What is your favorite costume and why?
My favorite costume to date is Nagito Komaeda from Super Dangan Ronpa 2. I patterened out and sewed the jacket all myself, and it was my first major sewing project. Also his wig is a giant tentacled monster that I somehow managed to tackle and I've received many compliments on it. I'm very proud of it~
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Oh, loads! My biggest dream right now hopefully will become a reality by the end of 2014. I want to attend Youmacon 2014, a convention held Halloween weekened, as vampire form Sora from Kingdom Hearts. I've loved Kingdom Hearts and Nightmare Before Christmas both from a very young age and I'm so excited to bring one of my favorite designs to life.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
One of my favorite con stories is from Anime Central 2013. It was Sunday, and the day before I had purchased an Organization XIII cloak in the Dealer's Room so I could cosplay Roxas from Kingdom Hearts. I had the wig and basically everything I needed for the cosplay, so Sunday morning I threw together a quick Roxas cosplay. It wasn't perfect by any means, but it was the last day of the con and I was really excited to finally cosplay from Kingdom Hearts, especially because I had been wanting that cloak for so long. Immediately when I walked in the convention center a Namine cosplayer spotted me and came running, yelling "Roxas!!!" and then asked me for a hug. The positive attention I recieved from all the KH cosplayers that day really made me feel great. I was waiting for my ride to show up so I could leave the convetion, and a Xion cosplayer came up to me and said something like "Roxas, I'm incomplete without you." It was so adorable. We hugged and talked for a little and snapped pictures with each other. Then, the Xion pulls off their gloves, rolls up their sleeves, and takes off two checkered wristbands like Roxas wears in Kingdom Hearts II and says "Here, Roxas, you need these more than I do." I nearly cried. That Xion was so adorable and they made my entire convention that week.
Do you participate in masquerades?
I've only ever competed once. It was a great experience and I learned a lot, but I really want to improve myself and my cosplays before I attempt to compete again.
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Not yet, but hopefully some day~
