About Me / Q&A

What got you into cosplay?
In 2000 I attended Anime Expo for the first time, and I saw cosplayers dressed up as their favorite characters and whatnot. I felt a little out of place so the next year in 2001 I made a costume to cosplay in. That is basically how I got started.
What was your first costume and why?
My first costume is Garnet. Because it is my trademark costume. I entered the cosplay scene in that costume and no costume will be able to take its place.
What is your favorite costume and why?
My favorite costume is the same garnet. I just did some major re-vamping work on it and it looks even better than when I wore it for the first time.
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Of course. Who doesn't? I think the costume I'd still like to make to this day is the original summoner outfit that Yuna wore in FFX.
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
well...I have a couple of experiences that did make my con-going all the more pleasant. Anime Expo 2001: In the dealer's room there was this kuja that was behind one of the dealer's booth's, and when I walked by the kuja glanced over and yelled out, "GARNET!" that was very memorable to me. Anime Expo 2002: While I was walking around I saw the video game area and so I walked in. A couple of people jumped out of their chairs and then ran over to me and gave me a hug and said, "wow your the first ling xiaoyu I've seen all day!! and a very accurate one at that!" that made my day. Anime Expo 2003: once again wandering around the dealer's room. Then on multiple occassions I was stopped in my tracks to talk to other suikoden cosplayers and fans. On one of these occasions I ran into a hix and he said, "hey..mcdohl have you seen tengarr?" and then after chatting with him for a bit I continued to wander around the dealer's room until and odessa silverburg and her flick bunny came out of no where and grabbed my hand and kneeled to me and said, "Young Master" she ended up re-enacting the entire map in the earring event in the game. it was an overall neat experience. Anime Expo 2004: walking around in my KH leon costume then having someone stop me with a camcorder by saying, "OMG! LEON STOP!!!" that was great!
Do you participate in masquerades?
Anime Expo 2007 and 2008
What was your best masquerade experience?
I think the aftermath of it, is the best. That's when you can relax and take a deep breath in and realize it's all over. Not only that, but being recognized as the people from "the masquerade" doesn't hurt either. ^_^
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
Not yet. I am hopeful for the future however.
