What got you into cosplay?
My friend did. I never had been to an anime convention until 2005. I was always more of a theater girl until she threw a costume at me (ironically enough it was the outfit of one of my favorite characters) and dragged me to AWA XI. To be perfectly honest, I never have been a big anime fan. I mean, sure I'll watch it, but it never was something I did on a daily basis. I got more into cosplaying because I saw it as an informal/unofficial form of acting. I loved the entire process it took to get into a character and knowing that I made the costume and did my best to jump out of my normal self and into this funkified character with bubblegum PINK hair. xD Needless to say, it's been an interesting journey at that. ^_^
What was your first costume and why?
My first COSTUME ever was a Star Wars variant. Hayli Jade. She's my own OC that I created for a story I started writing a LONG time ago, then my brother and I started gaming online and we used our own characters to play. I love Hayli. She's this kick ass in-your-face type of girl. Everything I'm not. ^_^;; But it was fun to make the costume and get a chance to jump into her shoes. My first ANIME costume was Genin Sakura. I have this love/hate feeling for it, merely because well, the costume itself sucks so badly, but its nostalgic whenever I'm cleaning out my closet and I see it hanging there. First con, first costume...(*sighs*). Talk about a LONG time ago in a galaxy far FAR away....lol!!
What is your favorite costume and why?
Being Haruno Sakura from Naruto. My Time Jump costume has undergone a lot of modifications and it still is changing. xD I've had a lot of people come up to me and tell me that I look a lot like Sakura when in costume. I just love it. I luffs the pink hair and the fact that Sakura just kicks so much butt in the time skip. ^_^
Do you have a dream costume you'd like to make?
Yes. ScruffyRebel is my costume idol, and I would LOVE to be able to put together Jaina's pilot suit from Rogue Squadron. It will indeed be a difficult process, but I shall enjoy every moment of the challenge. ^_^
What has been your most memorable cosplay experience?
I wouldn't call it a cosplay experience, per se. I dressed up as a character from a book this past May and flew out to Phoenix with one of my good friends for the book signing of our favorite author. Just having her tell me that she loved my dress and outfit was probably one of the COOLEST things ever! ^_^
Do you participate in masquerades?
Of course!
What was your best masquerade experience?
Best experience ever has to be the FIRST masquerade I participated in. My little brother and I choreographed our own lightsaber duel and performed it on stage at Dragon*Con 2005 to music from ep. 3. It rocked out and we wow-ed the audience, taking home Best in Show afterwards. ^_^ Not bad for a first-timer, ne? lol!
Have you won any awards for your costumes?
~Dragon*Con 2005: Best In Show ~Dragon*Con 2006: Best Original group ~Dragon*Con 2007: Best In Show. ~Sakura look-alike on TBN's cosplay group.
Tell us a little about yourself
I'm in school studying. Simple enough right? Balance a social life, schoolwork, a job and then throw cosplay into the mix and you've got one nice big mess, no? xD I'm majoring in Biology for a career that I hope to be able to continue with someday. Once I get my Bachelor's degree, that career will go on hold until I figure out how to get into medical school. ^_^; Outside of cosplaying, I enjoy the subtle things in life. I play the piano, and while I joke around with friends about not reading, I DO read. A LOT. I spend more time curling up with books than I do slaving at my ancient sewing machine. XD;; I'm an actress. For the past 2 years I've taken a short leave from it, jumping into this cosplay business to take a break for a little bit. I've done tons of school theater and even got a commercial audition for GAP. I shied away from it because I didn't really think that I was capable of going off to do bigger and better things. (Plus I wanted to get the chance to see what college was like.) Anyhow, I'm going to be putting cosplay on the back burner for a while as I pursue it once more. Its easier to do one thing or the other because both can be extremely time-occupying. XDD I love hanging out with my friends because to me, friends are more important than anything in this world. I'm not big on watching anime as much as I used to before, but I will diligently keep up with Naruto, just because it was my favorite anime since 2004. XD I write occasionally too, which helps expunge my mind. I'm mainly a SasuSaku shipper, so if you love that pairing as much as I do...lol! I'm such a hopeless romantic too sometimes. ^_^;
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Maybe? lol! I like meeting new people and hanging out at cons. I would think I'm pretty easy to talk to and its fun talking to other cosplayers about cosplay! ^_^ I'm extremely shy outside the cosplay world, but I'll warm up to you eventually. ^_^; Just don't freak me out, okay? lol
